Caryl Walters
Caryl Walters, 66, of Cando, ND, passed away on Monday, April 4, 2011 at her home in Devils Lake, ND surrounded by her loving husband and daughter. In 2009, Caryl was diagnosed with a brain tumor and spent much of the last two years in Rochester, MN, where she was treated extensively.
Visitation will be at the Dunnigan-Dix Funeral Home on Friday, April 8, 2011 from 4:00 to 7:00 with a prayer service at 7:00 PM. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 9, 2011, at 2:00 PM at Cando Lutheran Church of Cando, ND.
Caryl Pulst, daughter of Clarance and Elvira (Johnson) Pulst, was born on October 17, 1944 in Cando. She grew up on a farm west of Cando where she also attended school and graduated in 1962. Caryl attended Minot State University before transferring to Dakota Business College in Fargo. She received a degree in bookkeeping in 1965. She then began working as a bookkeeper at Dimco in Fargo where she met Edward Walters. They were married on August 20, 1966 at the Cando Lutheran Church. The couple lived in Fargo for two years before moving to Benson, MN for a year.
In 1969 they returned to North Dakota to live in Wahpeton where they made their home until 1981. At that time the family moved to Jakarta, Indonesia where Ed worked in offshore oil production. While living in Jakarta, Caryl volunteered her time as a seamstress for the American Woman's Association (AWA), an organization that raised money for local charities. The time overseas allowed Caryl and her family to collect many precious memories by visiting several different countries on their summer vacations.
Caryl and Ed returned to Cando in 1990 to establish their home on Caryl’s grandfather’s homestead. She was proud to become a 3rd generation farmer. Caryl had many hobbies and pastimes that included reading, crochet and knitting. She also had a life-long passion for gardening. Though she was proud of her vegetable garden and the flowers that she grew, nothing could compare to the pride she felt for her grandchildren. She loved her time with them so she always made a point to do what they wanted to do when they visited.
She is survived by her husband Edward; son Scott (Sherry) Walters of Cando; daughter Kristie (Wendell) Yoder of Cando; six grandchildren: Kylie, Colton, Case, Cordell, Alyssa and Camilynne; and sister Clairen (Leo) Jostad of Bottineau, ND.
Caryl was preceded in death by her parents as well as her sister Carlotta (Bob) Anderson of Foristell, MO and her brother Ronald Pulst of Cando, ND.
Condolences:
To Kristie and all your family:
May you be warmed always by the memory of your loved one. This will be her greatest tribute and legacy.
Respectfully yours,
Michael Gordon, Newton, NJ
Dear Ed and families,
We are all so sorry this has had to happen. There wasn't anything you or anyone else could have done to have fixed this. I can't thank you enough for the excellent care, concern, and encouragement you gave Caryl. There was no doubt for her about your love and that I'm sure was very comforting to her.
Our most sincere sympathy to you all.
Leo and Clairen Jostad
Ed, Kristie, Scott and Clairen,
Our hearts go out to you for the loss of Caryl. We know that all of you have been fighting so hard helping her to overcome her illness. It just wasn't God's will for her to win the battle.
I know that in looking down from heaven Carlotta is so thankful and proud of all the support you gave to Caryl. I can just hear them both up in heaven talking and laughing so hard as they always use to do.
Our love goes out to you.
