Eric Peterson, 86, Cando, ND, passed away on Wednesday, September 14, 2011 at the Towner County Memorial Hospital  in Cando. Memorial Services will be held on Saturday, September 17, 2011 at 2:00 PM at the Dunnigan-Dix Funeral Home in Cando, ND. Visitation will begin one hour prior to the service.

Eric Peterson was born September 10, 1925 to Erick and Mabel (Dix) Peterson at Cando. He was raised in Cando and attended school at Zion until the eighth grade. Eric was the oldest of five children and worked to help support the family. Eric married Marjorie Ann Dolan on March 26, 1949 in Cando. The couple lived in the Cando area until 1950 when they moved to Devils Lake, ND, returning in 1951 to the Peterson Family Homestead in Cando. In 1955 they moved East and North of Cando to the McLeod Farm and farmed until 1979. Eric then worked for various farmers in the area. In 1984 the couple moved back to the homestead where they farmed and raised cattle. They retired in 2005. He continued to work for area farmers until 2006. He moved from the farm in June of 2011.

Eric loved caring for his cattle (his pets) until he had to sell them due to health issues in 2002. He really enjoyed his neighbors and friends who were very important to him. He also enjoyed his morning coffee at D & R Tire and stopping at the neighbors or getting visits from his neighbors. He enjoyed spending time with his family, grandchildren, watching westerns, car racing, reading western books, and driving around and crop watching.

Eric is survived by his children: William (Kathy) Peterson of Turtle Lake, ND, Katherine (Richard) Schaefer of Cando, ND, Michael (Janet) Peterson of Devils Lake, ND, Gloria Peterson of Bottineau, ND, Larry Peterson of Cando, ND, Brenda Campbell (Mark Vetter) of Cando, ND; 12 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and sisters: Betty Lou (Jim) Moody of Seattle, WA and Ella Mae Belle of Cando, ND. Eric was preceded in death by his parents, wife Marjorie, daughter Mary, brother John and sister June Grande.
