Harold J. Campbell, son of Richard and Lena (Putman) Campbell, was born on November 24, 1923 on the family’s farmstead near Egeland. After graduating from the Egeland High School, he continued to farm with his father. On May 20, 1945 he married Ella Baerwald in Egeland. Shortly after, the couple moved to the farm where they would raise their five children.
Harold loved farming as it put to test his mechanical and handyman skills. However, it wasn’t until retirement that his talents became well known to others. Harold quickly became a local resource for anyone who had problems with small engines and magnetos. Word of his skills eventually spread, to the point that he was even shipped engines to repair from overseas. His humble and helpful nature will be missed by many. Harold was very active in the Trinity Lutheran Church until it’s closing at which time he became involved at Cando Lutheran.
Harold is survived by his wife: Ella; three daughters: Mary (Don) Schumacher of Tucson, AZ, Elaine (Don) Haugen of Langdon, ND and Irene (Ken) Adler of Sandpoint, ID; two sons: Ray (Paula) of Tucson, AZ and Robert (Marlene) of Yuma, AZ; ten grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Harold is preceded in death by his parent and two brothers: Ted and Cecil Campbell.

A relative of mine in the Grand Forks area sent me the obituary of Harold Campbell. I checked our family tree to see the relation. My mother, Laura Baerwald Zimbrick, may be remembered by Ella. Laura was Ewald Baerwald's daughter; she died in 2000. If she were alive, she'd send condolences to you. Since she is now in her heavenly home, I will offer my condolences to you. May God give you the comfort of the heavenly home that awaits all believers in Christ. I have some memories of many years ago of a very nice Amunda Baerwald and wrote to her when she lived in Hazen; I was a young girl then.
