Isador Vetter

Isadore “Issy” J. Vetter, 74, of Cando, ND passed away Sunday, May 15, 2011 at the Altru Hospital in Grand Forks.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, May 21, 2011at 10:00 am at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Cando. Visitation will be held at the Dunnigan-Dix Funeral Home on Friday, May 20, 2011 from 4:00 to 7:00. Visitation on Saturday will be at the church one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in the I.0.0.F. Cemetery in Cando.

Isadore Joseph Vetter was born on April 7, 1937 to Rochus and Catherine Vetter at Selz, ND He attended grade school at Rich Valley in Benson County for eight years and graduated from high school at Benson County Agricultural and Training School in Maddock, ND. He served in the US Army from 1956 to 1958. Issy came to Cando in April of 1959 to work for Baker Electric Cooperative, Inc. He married Verna Faye Ashenfelter of Cando on April 20, 1963, in Sacred Heart Church in Cando.

After 38 years as a lineman, in 1996, Issy retired, although he continued to work with his son at A & W Standard in Cando. Issy’s pride and joy were his cars. He could often be seen taking a cruise or driving in a parade with one of his four convertibles. He also collected toy cars, steins and mugs.

Issy is survived by his wife: Verna; two sons: Marc (special friend Brenda Campbell) of Cando and Steven (fiancée Pam

Halverson) of Mekinock, ND; four grandchildren: Shauna, Brett, Codi and Kelsi; eight great-grandchildren: Allie, Nathan, Dylan, Dakota, Aimee, Aiden, Bret Jr. and Emrie; three brothers: Wendlyn of Devils Lake, ND, Herman (Sharon) of Grand Forks, ND and Ronnie (Judi) of Harvey, ND; and one sister: Bernese (Elgin) Larson of Gillette, WY.

Preceding him in death were his parents and sister-in-law, Agnes Vetter.
