James R. Liberty

James R. Liberty, 79, Devils Lake, ND formerly of the Munich, ND area died Saturday, March 27, 2010 at Towner County Medical Center, Cando.

James Robert Liberty was born on April 1, 1930 at Walhalla, ND to Pete and Theresa (Haider) Liberty.  As a young child, he moved and was raised by his uncle Carl and aunt Othillia.  He attended school.  James entered the US Army in 1950 and stayed in the US military until 1972 when he was honorably discharged, and he moved to Calio.   James married Gertrude “Trudy” Brosowski.  She died in 1985.  On December 11, 2005, James married Genevieve Hunt in Minnewaukan, ND.

James is survived by his wife, Genevieve, of Devils Lake, ND; two daughters: Vicky (Matt) Smith, of Sherwood, OR and Marita Liberty, of McMinnville, OR; five grandchildren: Rebecca Smith, Logan Smith, Mary Catherine Smith, Elizabeth Feist and Isabella Liberty and one great-grandson, Isiah.  Other survivors include sisters: Mavis Ward of Rockaway Beach, OR, Janet (Tom) Edwardson of Omaha, NE, Karen Boothe of Albuquerque, NM and Connie Haider of Devils Lake, ND. James was preceded in death by his first wife Gertrude, his parents, uncle and aunt Carl and Othillia (Haus) Haider, brother Charles Haider, uncle Mike Haider, and three Liberty infant children.

Mass of Christian Burial: Tuesday, April 6, 2010 at 10:30 AM at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Munich

Visitation: Monday, April 5, 2010 from 4:00 PM – 8:00 PM at Dunnigan-Dix Funeral Home, Cando

Rosary and Vigil Service: Monday, April 5, 2010 at 7:00 PM at Dunnigan-Dix Funeral Home, Cando

Interment: St. Boniface Catholic Cemetery, Calio, ND
