Kathleen Mae Cahill, 65, of Rock Lake, ND died unexpectedly on September 14, 2010, at her home in Rock Lake.
Kathleen “Kathy” Cahill was born on May 4, 1945, in Rolla, ND to Ralph and Geneva (Parslow) Stephens. She was raised on the family farm near Hansboro, ND, was confirmed at the Hansboro Methodist Church and graduated from the Hansboro High School. On December 29, 1962, Kathy married Harry Cahill in Hansboro. The couple resided in Rolla, ND until moving to Langdon where she was employed at the missile sites as a librarian. After Kathy’s father died, they moved to Rock Lake to take over the family farm. In 1980, she began her work as a bookkeeper at the North Central Grain Elevator in Rock Lake. She operated the KD’s Bar until her retirement. Many there knew and appreciated her for her entertaining humor and quick wit.
Kathy took pride in her garden. She shared her skills with canning and cooking with many. She loved spending time with friends and family playing pinochle or simply entertaining them with stories. She especially liked telling of how she started the Turtle Mountain Bells, a softball team she pitched for. Grandchildren will always remember her willingness to go bankrupt before losing a game of Monopoly. A special place in her heart was given to her friend Jerry Berg.
Kathy is survived by her daughter Sue Cahill Demers, St. John, ND; her sons Ted (Diane) Cahill and Bruce (Holly) Cahill, both of Rolla; grandchildren: Zachary, Dexter, Ally, Jake and Nicholas Cahill; Drew and AZ Demers; and Brody Cahill and her special friend, Jerry Berg. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Harry, sister Carol Kakela and brother-in-law Marvin Kakela.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday, September 19, 2010 at 2:00 PM at the United Methodist Church in Rock Lake, ND. The only visitation will take place at the church one hour prior to the funeral service. Burial will follow at the Rolla City Cemetery in Rolla, ND.
