Lois Simpson

Lois May Simpson, 91, Bisbee N.D., died July 19, 2010 in Bismarck. Born to Lillian and Charles A. Simpson, Lois graduated from Bisbee High School and University of North Dakota. She taught business in Hillsboro and Fargo, ND, and worked for an oil company and jewelry store in Billings, MT. After their mother had multiple strokes, Lois and her sister Lucille both left their careers to return home to Bisbee. They purchased “The Style Shop” in Cando, which they owned for 30 years, and took turns working in the store and taking care of their parents and brother, Donald. “The Style Shop” provided personal service, as Lois and Lucille knew the sizes and preferences of their customers, and purchased clothes at market week in Minneapolis with specific people in mind. They sold wedding and bridesmaids’ dresses and created unique accessories to coordinate with them.

Lois was a member of St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church and was involved in farm management. She enjoyed reading, current events, the arts, watching sports, and attending community events. Until moving to Parkview Assisted Living in Rolla, she often visited with friends over a meal at the Chocolate Shop in Bisbee. Lois will be remembered for stimulating conversation, beautiful flowers, great cookies, and delicious hot fudge sauce!

Her siblings, Lucille, Fred (and Doris Jean), Robert, and Donald, and nephew-in-law, Bill Rohland preceded her in death. Lois was an important and supportive part of the lives of her nieces and nephews, James and Vivian Simpson, Eileen Rohland, Amy Simpson, Doreen and Gary Oakland, Roberta and Tom Appelhans and Rebecca and Al Hunter. She was a beloved grand-aunt to Liesl (Ndiol Cahire), Karin, and Sean (Angie) Rohland; Joe, Tom (Angela), Nathaniel (Melissa) and Bethany Oakland; Kathryn (Matt Kunkel) and Sarah Simpson; Julie, Richard (Shannon), and Peter Appelhans; and James and Janine Epstein and Kara Williams. Six great-grand nieces and nephews, and sister-in-law Helyn Simpson also survive her.

Visitation will be at Dunnigan-Dix Funeral Home in Cando on Friday, July 30, from 4-9 p.m. with a Prayer Service at 8:00 p.m.

Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. on Saturday, July 31, 2010 at the Bisbee Lutheran Church.

INTERMENT St. Paul’s Presbyterian Cemetery of Bisbee, ND.

Condolences:

Some years ago, I was hired by Lois to do some lawn care for her home there in Bisbee.  I will never forget her because as the obituary articulately states, "Lois will be rememebered for stimulating conversation......".  I enjoyed our conversation.  She immersed me in history in such a way that I was spell-bound.....she was so gracious to me and my young daughter (she treated us to cookies); she talked about the family well- drilling business; the home smelled of the books she had throughout the house....you could tell that she had consumed their wealth.  Know that she touched a person just passing through.  I am saddened by her passing.

We want to extend our sympathy to you in the loss of Lois.  As a girl growing up in the Cando area I remember going into the "Style Shop" many times.  Lois & Lucille were always so friendly & helpful.  Our prayers & sympathy are with you.

Dear Amy,

How much I miss you. I am so sorry for your loss. I have you in my prayers, and think of you often. I was always happy to see you as you always had a smile for everyone.

Take care, Cori Axvig
