Mathew J. Haus

Mathew Joseph Haus, 95, Cando, ND died Saturday, February 20, 2010 at the Towner County Medical Center.

Mathew “Math” Joseph Haus, Jr. was born March 30, 1914 to Mathias and Justina (Schmitz) Haus in Calio.  He attended school in Calio and farmed around the Calio area for over 35 years.  He married Silvia Baerwald on October 13, 1938. In 1977, Math and Silvia retired from farm life and moved to Cando where they made many good friends. They moved into Towner County Living Center in October 2007 and shared a room together there; always watching out for and taking care of each other.

Math was a very kind and gentle man. He loved the land and the great outdoors with all of its animals and most of all his family. He had a remarkable memory and contributed many dates and facts for the Munich Centennial book.  Math also took great pride in voting democratic in every presidential election in his life.

 

He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Silvia; daughter Marie (Clint) Goergen of Cando; son-in-law Quentin Ames of Munich, ND; 6 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandson.

He is preceded in death by his precious daughter JoAnn at age 36; his parents; brothers: Ed, Bert, John, Alex and August; sisters: Natalia “Mae” Hammer, Ann Evans, Marie Haus and Appollonia Leier (February 20, 2010).

Funeral Service:  Tuesday, February 23, 2010 Cando Lutheran Church 10:30 AM

Visitation:  Monday, February 22, 2010 2:00 PM until 8:00 PM Dunnigan-Dix Funeral Home, Cando and for one hour prior to the service on Tuesday

Prayer Service:  Monday, February 22, 2010 7:00 PM Dunnigan-Dix Funeral Home, Cando

Interment:   In the spring in Munich, ND

I am very sorry to hear of Math's passing. He was a joy to my day while working at the living center. What a sweet and wonderful man.  He always had kind words and great wisdom to pass along to us. I will miss him very much.
