Myrtle Swank, 96,  of Egeland, ND passed away Wednesday, October 7, 2009 at the Heartland Care Center of Devils Lake, ND.

Myrtle Adina Ness was born September 3, 1913 at the Ness Farm near Calio, ND to Olaf Andrew and Thilda (Finneseth) Ness.  She grew up on a farm near Calio, ND and graduated from Calio High School.  She helped on the family farm and worked at the local depot.  Myrtle was united in marriage to Willard Delbert “Bill” Swank on September 3, 1936 at the Ness Family Farm.  They lived in different locations in Washington State and finally settled in Egeland, ND.  They made their home and their family was raised there.  She worked as clerk of the Egeland School for several years and was very active in the community.  She was a member of the Towner County Historical Society, the VFW Auxiliary, Lakeview Lutheran Ladies Aid, and the Egeland Senior Citizens.  She enjoyed Quilting, making crafts, crocheting and gardening.

She is survived by her children Eileen Salisbury of Sumter, SC; Harry (Darlene) Swank of Mandan, ND; Robert Swank of Chandler, AZ; Richard (Jackie) Swank of Minto, ND, eight grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, sister Thelma Roles of Calio, ND.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and son-in-law Evan Salisbury.

Visitation will take place on Sunday October 11, 2009 at the Dunnigan Dix Funeral Home from 4 to 8pm with a 7:00 pm prayer service.

SERVICES  Monday, October 12, 2009 at 10:00 O ‘Clock at the Lakeview Lutheran Church of Egeland, ND.
