Anton "Tony" F. Eggl, 84, Cando, ND died Tuesday, January 13, 2009 at Towner County Living Center, Cando.
Anton "Tony" F. Eggl was born on the family farm southeast of Cando on March 22, 1924 to Wilhelm and Victoria (Elsperger) Eggl. He was baptized and confirmed at Sacred Heart Catholic Church , Cando. He grew up and attended school in Cando and in the rural area.
Tony brought joy and happiness to so many family, neighbors and friends beginning at a very early age, continuing throughout his entire life. He had a special talent and gift of music. He loved to play his accordion which he only learned the keyboard for as a child because he was unable to reach the pedals while sitting on his fathers lap. They spent many hours playing on the piano bench in front of the player piano. Music always played a very important part in Tony's life. He helped start a family orchestra group with his brothers Joe and Fred, along with his sister Ida Bjorge. In 1937, they began playing for public dances (Saturday night dances in the Cando Memorial building, wedding dances, proms, card parties, school dances) in towns throughout Towner County and the surrounding areas until 1959. Tony also loved the land, he was a lifelong farmer, raising many kinds of crops, but insisted on making sure he also had summer-fallow. He was a lifelong member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus .
Tony is survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and two sisters-in-law: Jan Eggl and Eileen Eggl, both of Cando.
Tony was preceded in death by his parents, Brothers: Joe, John, William and Frederick, and his sister, Ida Bjorge.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, January 17, 2009 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Cando at 2:00 PM.
