William A. Meyer

William A. Meyer, 67, Agate, ND died on December 21, 2010 at his home.

Funeral Services will be held on Monday, December 27, 2010 at 5:00 pm at the Cando Lutheran Church, Cando, ND. Visitation will be at the church one hour before the funeral. Interment will be at the Pingree Lutheran Cemetery in Pingree, ND in the spring.

William “Bill” Meyer was born December 14, 1943 in Jamestown, ND the son of John and Gwendolyn (Larsen) Meyer. He was raised on the family farm and educated in Pingree. In 1964, he married Jessie Stockford. Bill attended Valley City State College and graduated with a degree in teaching. He taught school for a short time in Wing, ND before accepting a position teaching in the elementary grades in Mandan, ND. In 1983, he and his family moved to Agate, ND where Bill took over his uncles', George and Clarence Larsen’s, farm. During this time he also was a substitute teacher at the Ojibwa School in Belcourt, ND.

Having retired from farming the past 10 years, Bill had the time to travel the world, which he truly loved. A real highlight for him was the opportunity to take his brother and his mother with him to China. His ventures also included Mexico, Australia, New Zealand and Egypt. Each year he would take his RV to Corpus Christi, Texas where he would remain for the winter. Bill also enjoyed hunting and fishing. Bill’s competitive nature made him a tough Pinochle player.

Bill is survived by two sons: Mark (Penny) of Farmington, MN and Paul (Chelsie) of Fargo, ND; three daughters: Mary (Darren) Larsen of Lawton, ND, Michelle (Tom) Ferry of Atlanta, GA and Melissa (John) Ludwig of Clover, SC; one brother: David (Jackie) Meyer of Quesnel, British Columbia; 12 grandchildren; a special friend: Virginia Parr, and her children: Sherry Parr of Devils Lake, Valerie Parr of Columbus, OH, Jim Parr Jr. of Rolla and Robert Parr of Madison, WI.

Bill is preceded in death by his parents, John and Gwendolyn, and his brother, John Meyer.

We were shocked and saddended to hear of your Bill's death. My dad (Bob) Hogue just talked to Bill on Sunday, the night before he died. They are not able to make the funeral but want to send their deepest sympathies. Our family has many great memories of Bill and his family going back to when we were on the farm and we were neighbors. Over the years, he had come to Bismarck for our weddings and the last time for my parents 40th wedding anniversary. He will be greatly missed.

Robert and Sharon Hogue

I have a lot of good memories of Bill. Camping, Fishing, and just getting together to talk. He and Jessie took me on my first trip to California when I was barely a teen. He will be missed and always remembered. My condolences to all of his children and grand-children.

John Stockford

Sorry to hear about your recent loss. Been thinking of you all since I heard. Wish I could be there today...Dr. Appt. in Fargo... wondering if Dave and Jackie made it home from Canada? Would love to hear from you sometime.

Lotsa love,

Barb Knutson
