Agnes L. Schonauer

Agnes L. Schonauer, 90, Cando, ND, formerly of the Hampden/Starkweather, ND area, died Sunday, January 11, 2009 at the Towner County Living Center, Cando, ND.

 

Agnes was born to Albert and Gena (Sorbo) Ferley on January 3, 1919 at Balfour, ND.  She moved from there in 1928 with her family to a farm near Alsen, ND.  She received her education in that area and graduated from the Alsen High School in 1937.  Agnes married Vernon Schonauer on October 14, 1940 at Starkweather.  They spent their first year of married life in the Minneapolis, MN area working.  They then returned to the Hampden area and farmed there until retiring in 1987 when they moved into Hampden.

 

Agnes was an active member of the United Methodist Church of Hampden until its closure and then became a member of the Zoar Free Lutheran Church in Hampden.  She also was an active member of the Rebekah Lodge for several years.  Agnes' husband, Vernon, passed away February 16, 1991. Agnes continued to live in Hampden until November 1997, when she moved to the Edmore Memorial Rest Home.  In 2001, she moved to the Towner County Living Center, Cando.

 

Agnes is survived by her children:  Judy (Steve) Heisler, Cando, Jill (Ted) Hoiland, Blue Springs, MO, Douglas ( Gloria) Schonauer, Hampden, ND, Don (Diane) Schonauer, Hazen, ND and Dale (Nancy) Schonauer, Edmore, ND; 13 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, 16 step great-grandchildren and 1 step great-great-grandchild; her sisters:  Nina Peterson, Lake Mills, Iowa and Gladys Neidlinger, Cando.  Agnes was also preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, parents, sister Mildred Johnson, brothers: Gaylord and Raymond Ferley, an infant brother and a son-in-law, Richard Anderson.

 

There will be visitation on Friday, January 16, 2009 from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM with a 7:00 PM Prayer Service all at the Dunnigan-Dix Funeral Home, Cando. Burial will be at a later time in the spring.    

SPRING INTERMENT SERVICE- will be held at Storlie Cemetery, rural Hampden, ND on Friday, June 5, 2009 at 11 am with lunch to follow at the Zoar Free Lutheran Church of Hampden, ND.
