Gertrude “Gertie” S. Price, 93, Cando, ND died Thursday, March 26, 2009 at Towner County Living Center, Cando.

Gertrude was born to Max and Karolina “Lena” (Roederer) Hauschulz on her parents farm southwest of Rock Lake, ND on August 24, 1915.  She attended Howell School for 8 grades then Rock Lake High School where she graduated.  In 1936 she went to Beauty College in Fargo.  She worked in beauty shops in Devils Lake (Claire Beauty Shop), Langdon and Rolla.  Gertie started her own shop in Rock Lake in 1940.  In 1952 Gertie gave the building and business to Butler Anton.  On December 6, 1952, Gertie married Merle Price at Rock Lake and they lived on his farm four miles south of Rock Lake.  They then retired in 1974 to Cando and lived in Charlie Dix apartments for many years.  They moved to Prairie View in 2003 before she entered Towner County Living Center in 2004.

Gertie was a member of the Cando Lutheran Church and Thrivent – formerly the AAL/Lutheran Brotherhood.  She was also involved in bowling and modern square dancing.  Gertie also liked to crochet, knit, can fruits and vegetables, and catch bigger and more fish than others.  Gertie and Merle spent many summers at their lake cabin on Lake Upsilon where they loved to fish and entertain friends and family.

Gertie is survived by her husband, Merle, of Cando, brother, Raymond Hauschulz, of Rock Lake and sister, Mildred “Dolly” Shier of Washington.

Gertie is preceded in death by her parents and two brothers: Norbert and Harold Hauschulz.
