Myrtle C. Halling, 96, Cando, ND died March 28, 2009 at Towner County Medical Center, Cando.
Myrtle Crystella Halvorson was born April 2nd, 1912 at Rugby, ND to Martin and Carrie (Thompson) Halvorson. She was raised and attended school in Rugby, graduating from Rugby High School. She was united in marriage to Seivert “Steve” Halling on December 1, 1935 at Tunbridge, ND. They lived on Steve’s family farm in Zion Township until they retired and moved into Cando in 1980. Steve passed away in August of 1998 and in the same year, Myrtle moved to the Towner County Living Center, Cando.
Myrtle enjoyed her time and days cooking, baking (especially birthday cakes) and her flower gardens. She also loved bowl, do needlework, and spend time with family and neighbors. She was a member of Cando Lutheran Church and the Lunde Ladies Aid.
Myrtle is survived by her 2 daughters: Karen (John) Hovey, of New Rockford, ND and Kathy (Bill) Nichols, of Rolla, ND; 6 grandchildren: Steve (Joyce) Hovey, Jim (Annette) Hovey, Kristin (Kurt) Veitch, Brady (Char) Nichols, Tana (Lee Mashburn) Nichols and Brent Nichols; 7 great-grandchildren and 1 sister, Esther Thomte, of Albuquerque, NM. In addition to her husband, Steve, Myrtle was preceded in death by her parents, 3 brothers, 3 sisters and a great-granddaughter: Marlee Nichols.
Funeral service will be held Saturday, May 23, 2009 at 10:30 AM at Cando Lutheran Church, Cando.
Interment will be held at Halling Cemetery, rural Cando.
