Allan Francis Overland, 90, of Cando, ND formerly of Churchs Ferry and Devils Lake, ND passed away on Tuesday, June 28, 2016 at the Towner County Living Center in Cando, ND. Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, July 7, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at Christian Fellowship Church, Cando with the Reverend Les Koenig and Reverend Bonnie Weaver officiating. Visitation will be held at the Dunnigan-Dix Funeral Home, Cando on Wednesday, July 6, 2016 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with a Family Service at 7:00 p.m. Visitation on Thursday will be at the church one hour prior to the service. Interment will take place in Churchs Ferry Cemetery. Casket Bearers will be Dan Webster, Travis Shock, Jason Lura, Corey Shock, Darin Shock, Michael Shock, Matthew Shock and Kyle Johnson. Honorary Bearers will be all of Allan's family and friends. Music will be provided by Sid Bingaman and Peggy Hendrickson.

Allan Francis Overland was born on May 26, 1926 to Adolph and Mabel (Blegen) Overland of Churchs Ferry, North Dakota and was raised on the family farm that was built by his grandfather, John Overland. He was a baptized and confirmed member of Zion Scandinavian Free Lutheran Church and Zion Lutheran Church after the new church was built in Churchs Ferry. Allan graduated from Churchs Ferry Public School in 1944 and remained on the family farm with his parents farming the land that he loved. He was a devoted son and took excellent care of his parents until they passed away.

On August 5, 1995 Allan married Peggy (Clark) Shock, the love of his life, whom he had known since first grade. A beautiful wedding and reception was held at the Brethren Church in Cando attended by family and close friends. Allan and Peggy spent many happy years together and enjoyed life on the family farm. They shared a love for life and many laughs/giggles and fun times with their family and friends. They truly enjoyed every moment of being a married couple. They remained on the family farm until water forced them to move to Devils Lake and lived there until June 2009 when an unfortunate fire destroyed their home. At that time they moved to St. Francis in the Towner County Living Center in Cando due to deteriorating health and later into the Living Center. Allan continued to care for his "special" gal in as many ways as he could. Allan was well known for his beautiful voice. He sang solos and was also part of the Sons of Norway men's quartet singing for weddings, funerals and many other events. While living at the Living Center, he especially enjoyed singing the hymns and listening to the special groups that performed at the Living Center, toe-tapping to the beat. He was a gifted man with many talents and was also a perfectionist; very organized, detailed and thorough with everything he did. He was a great carpenter, very artistic, a good cook/baker, played piano, liked book work, scrapbooking, reading, puzzles, television (especially Lawrence Welk and the weather channel), kept up on current events, enjoyed company and was the perfect host. Allan was active in church and various committees, Churchs Ferry Cemetery, Sons of Norway, Odd Fellows Lodge and Churchs Ferry Alumni. He enjoyed teasing Peggy and was a very kind and caring step-father, father-in-law, grandfather and great-grandfather, cousin and friend to all and will be truly missed. He loved to watch the grandkids and their liveliness, was curious about things they were involved in and the twinkle in his eye always made everyone smile. He was always very much a gentleman - always putting everyone else first. He had a special love for dogs and came alive when around one. He was especially fond of Bella (a staff worker's dog) at the Living Center and the employees that took such good care of him.

He is survived by step-sons , Donald (Linda) and Gary Shock of Cando, daughter-in-law Cindy Nelms (Joe) of Jamestown, seven step-grandchildren, ten step-great-grandchildren, cousins, Jean Boesl, Arden Helgeseth, Ann Nelson, Janiece Overland-Bauerle and Marilyn Maddux. Preceding Allan in death were: Wife, Peggy - Parents, Adolph and Mabel – Mother-in-law, Christine Clark - Step-children, Allen and Joel Shock , Daughter-in-law, Lynette Shock and his cousins.
