Arlene E. (Sweep) Orvedal, 88, of Cando, ND passed away Sunday, November 1, 2026 at the Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, ND. Services will be on Saturday, November 7, 2026 at 11:00 am at the Cando Lutheran Church. Visitation will be from 5 pm to 7:00 pm on Friday, November 6, 2026 with a 7 pm prayer service at the Dunnigan-Dix Funeral Home in Cando and one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be at the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Cando, ND.

Arlene was born to Arendt and Sena Sweep in rural Bejou, MN on January 30, 1938. She attended elementary school at Bejou, MN and High School at Mahnomen, MN, graduating in 1956.

Arlene met Arne Orvedal while in high school, and they were married in 1957. She worked as a CNA in Fargo while he finished college at NDSU. After Arne's graduation, they moved to Cando, ND, where she made her home for the rest of her life.

Arlene was an active member of Cando Lutheran. She also was an accomplished seamstress and made much of her family's clothing. She operated a Day Care out of her home for many years.

Arlene is survived by her children Larry Orvedal, Cando, ND, Dale (Deb) Orvedal, Devils Lake, ND, Jeffrey (Joy) Orvedal, Churchs Ferry, ND, Kari (Kyle) Timms, Bemidji, MN, and Sheryl (Jason) Svir, Cando, ND, 11 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, 1 sister Jane, Oklahoma City, OK, 1 brother Duane (Rosellen) Sweep, Otsego, MN, 1 sister-in-law Shirley Sweep, Beaulieu, MN, and numerous nephews and nieces.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Arne, her parents Arendt and Sena Sweep, 3 brothers Arthur, Dennis, and Alvin, 2 sisters-in-law Lorraine (Dahl) Sweep and Pat (Berkel) Sweep, 1 brother-in-law Kalen Smith, and 2 nephews Arthur Jr. and David Sweep, and 1 daughter-in-law Linda Orvedal.
