Elizabeth L. (Betty) Freund was born to George J and Anna (Rasmussen) Freund on May 3, 1936, in the family home, in Paulson Township, Towner County, North Dakota. She grew up on the farm where she was involved in the daily chores and other activities with her five siblings. She attended Egeland West Country School, and graduated from Cando High School in 1954. After high school, she worked in the Towner County Auditor's Office. She married Dale Farbo, also of Cando, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Cando, on June 4, 1957, and they had 5 children. Her favorite activities outside of farm chores were vegetable and flower gardening, baking cookies and cakes, drinking coffee, watching after her grandchildren, and her most favorite – driving a combine. After the boys got a little older, she took up crocheting (particularly afghans) and later quilting. She turned out many beautiful pieces during that time, and she never saw a skein of yarn or a yard of quilting material that she didn't at least consider buying.
Betty is survived by her husband of 61 years, Dale Farbo, of Cando, children Michael (Nancy), Jeffry (Cyndi) and Scott, all of Cando, eight grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren, brother Wayne (Marguerite) Freund, of Cando, sister Sr Dominica Freund, OSB, of St Joseph, MN, sisters-in-law Gladys Freund and Joyce Freund, both of Cando, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, infant daughter Nancy Kay Farbo, son Mark Farbo, brothers George T Freund, Robert V Freund (infant) and Jack Freund, and sister Sr Rose Marie Freund, OSF.
