Brenda C. Halverson, 74, of Egeland, ND passed away suddenly on December 15, 2024 at the Towner County Medical Center in Cando, ND.

Memorial Services will be on Saturday, January 4, 2025 at 11:00 am at the Cando United Methodist Church with Dr. Timothy McDowell officiating. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service at the church.

Brenda Charlotte Damschen was born on September 3, 1950 in Devils Lake, ND, the daughter of Frank and Dorothy (Reynolds) Damschen of rural Hampden. She grew up on a farm near Hampden and attended Hampden Public School. She graduated from there with honors in 1968.

After graduating from high school, Brenda attended Vennard College, a non-denominational Christian college located just outside of Oskaloosa, Iowa. She then attended college at Northwest Institute of Medical Technology in Minneapolis, MN and earned a degree in Medical Technology.

Brenda moved back to North Dakota and began working at the clinic in Cando. While living in Cando, Brenda met Larry Halverson. They were married on May 6, 1972 and made their home in the Cando area for many years before moving out to a farm near Egeland, ND.

Brenda spent the majority of her career working as a Dental Assistant at a dental office in Cando with Dr. Wellman. She made many friends there and often spoke fondly of the fun they had in the office. Brenda also worked at dental offices in Rolla and Devils Lake before she retired. After retiring, Brenda enjoyed working for the Towner County Historical Society located in the former Egeland school building and writing for the Towner County Record Herald.

One of Brenda's greatest loves was horses. From a very young age, Brenda could often be found outside with the horses, and she had a special talent and unique gift for understanding them. Throughout their years of marriage, Brenda and Larry spent much of their time raising and boarding horses. Brenda loved giving riding lessons, facilitating equine therapy, and volunteering with S.P.U.R.S. (a not-for-profit organization of trained volunteers who serve to assist in search rescue efforts). Brenda also had a special love for cats and was always quick to provide a loving home for any sweet (and even not so sweet!) kitties that needed some extra love and care.

Another one of Brenda's greatest loves was music. She was a talented singer and piano player, and there was almost nothing she loved more than doing music with friends. Whether it was playing at a special event with "Destiny 281," accompanying the "Silver Strings" violin group, doing music at a nursing home or church, or just getting together with friends to play music for fun, Brenda found great joy in all of it and provided encouragement and joy to many by sharing her musical talents.

Brenda's greatest love was for her family. She often talked about how thankful she was for Larry's support of all of her "endeavors" and was always quick to proudly share updates about her children and her granddaughter…they were truly her greatest pride and joy. Brenda was a fierce advocate, loyal protector, and steady, loving presence for her family. She loved them so deeply.

Brenda enjoyed keeping herself busy with baking, reading, working on projects in the barn, doing music with friends, and spending time with her family. She recently shared that she was "thankful for so many things, even , or maybe especially, for all the things that make my life a hair-raising mad rush most days!" She had a witty sense of humor, gave the best delivery of a clever line, and loved to laugh at a good story. Brenda had a passion to help the underdog and those who were down and out, always ready to accept them and advocate for them without judgement. She loved the Lord and lived a life of faith in Jesus, but never forced her personal faith or beliefs on anyone. The sudden loss of Brenda leaves a significant void in the lives of the many who knew her and loved her.

Brenda is survived by her loving husband of 52 years, Larry Halverson of Egeland; son, Travis Halverson of Egeland; daughter, Audrey Stockstad of Fargo; granddaughter, Ava Stockstad of Grand Forks; brother, Chuck (Alice) Damschen of Hampden; several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Dorothy, and her father, Frank.
