Charles Rader, 84, of Cando, ND passed away on Friday, May 2, 2014 at Towner County Medical Center in Cando, ND of multiple health complications. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, May 7, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Cando, with Fr. Joseph D'Aco, celebrant. Burial will be in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery, Cando. Visitation will be at the Dunnigan-Dix Funeral Home on Tuesday from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. with a vigil prayer service at 7:00 p.m. Visitation on Wednesday will be for one hour prior to the service at the church. Military Honors will be provided by the Hal Parker Post #79 Cando American Legion and North Dakota Military Funeral Honors. Casket bearers will be Jeff Held, David Rader, David Lang, Eric Nordmark, John Rader and Michael Lang. Music will be provided by Gladys Fluge, Tom Freund and the Sacred Heart Choir.
Charles was born June 19th, 1929 in Cando, ND to Charles and Marie Rader. He graduated from Cando High School in 1947, and attended North Dakota State School of Science for auto and tractor mechanics. He enlisted in the Army National Guard during the Korean Conflict then, following his discharge, joined the American Legion Hal Parker Post # and in 2012 was honored with a life time membership. On June 30th, 1954 Charles married Dorothy Held at Holy Rosary Church in Bisbee, ND. Together, they had a son and two daughters. He was a lifelong farmer, and an active member of the National Farmers Organization. He was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church and cemetery board. As a talented, meticulous, handyman, his hobbies included restoring early model Ford and Studebaker vehicles, woodworking, and many tinkering projects. Dorothy, his children and grandchildren and friends will always remember him as a kind, loving, hardworking man.
Charles is survived by his wife of 59 years, Dorothy; son, Gary (Nancy), Cando, ND; daughters Carol Lang (David), Egeland, ND, and Paula Charron (special friend Preston Stewart), Devils Lake, ND; grandsons John Rader (Michele), Fargo, ND, Michael Lang, Egeland, ND; granddaughters Beth Nordmark (Eric), Souris, ND, Gretchen Lang (Chris Klier), Cando, ND, and Annie Rader (Jesse Mastrian), Cando, ND; six great grandsons, two great granddaughters; brother-in-law, Harvey Held (Clarice) and a number of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Charles and Marie Rader, half-brothers Manson Rader and John Rader, and their wives, Margaret and Darlene, and a granddaughter Katie (Rader) Snyder.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the I.O.O.F. Cemetery or the Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery both located in Cando, ND.
