Clair Robert Howard, 87, of Cando, ND passed away Sunday, January 7, 2018 at the Eventide Heartland Care Center in Devils Lake, ND with family by his side. Memorial Service will be held at 10:30 AM Friday, January 12, 2018 at the United Methodist Church in Cando, ND with Pastor Rick Craig officiating. Visitation will begin one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will take place at the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Cando, ND in the spring.

Clair Robert Howard, son of Lee and Madge (Huff) Howard, was born on February 22, 1930 in Cando, North Dakota. He graduated from Cando High School in 1947. That same year he enlisted in the US Army and was discharged from the Army in 1952. In 1953 he enlisted in the National Guard and was honorably discharged in 1965 as a 1
st
Lieutenant. In January of 1955, he married Shirley Ann Welch. He was manager of ABL Lanes in Cando for many years.
Clair was a member of the Cando United Methodist Church, a 60 year member of the Cando Masonic Lodge, and was a member of the Cando Fire Department and Ambulance Service for more than 50 years. He was also a Boy Scout Leader in Cando. Clair enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and spending time with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He also enjoyed building model airplanes which was one of his hobbies.
Clair is survived by his wife, Shirley, his daughter, Deborah (Allen) Carlson, of Washougal, WA, his son, Tracy (Vicki) Howard, of Baker City, OR, his son Douglas (Toni) Howard, of Cando, and his son Alan (Darla) of Cando, grandchildren Crystal Carlson, Amber Carlson, Trevor Howard, Trenton Howard, Austin Howard, Brandon Howard, Payton Howard, Grant Howard, Garrett Howard, Madison Howard, and 5 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Clair was preceded in death by his parents, Lee and Madge, sister, Ruth McVay, and brother, William "Bill" Howard.
