Dorothy E. Rader, 93, of Cando, ND, passed away Tuesday, February 28, 2023 at the Towner County Living Center in Cando. Graveside services will be held at the I.O.O.F. Cemetery on Saturday, June 10, 2023 at 11:00 am with Fr. Daniel Musgrave officiating.

Dorothy was born April 12, 1929, in Cando, ND to William and Kathryn (Gores) Held. She grew up on the family farm north of Bisbee, ND. Dorothy attended Howell Rural School, graduating upon completion of the 8 ^th grade. She attended high school in Bisbee, graduating in 1947. Dorothy then attended the Minot Teachers College and received her teaching certificate. She taught in Garrison, ND for 3 years and in Cando, ND for 3 years.

On June 30 ^th , 1954, Dorothy was united in marriage to Charles Rader, Jr.  at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Bisbee. They moved to the Charles Rader farm east of Cando. Together they had a son, Gary, and two daughters, Carol and Paula. Dorothy was a career farm wife and mother, assisting Charlie with the farming when needed while raising her three children. Dorothy's life on the farm leaves her family with many special memories, such as those of her large summer gardens and her delicious homemade buns, especially when covered with her rhubarb jam. Away from the farm, Dorothy was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Cando, The Altar Society and The Christian Mothers. She was also a lifetime member of the American Legion Auxiliary.

In 2012, after more than 50 years of life on the farm, Charles and Dorothy moved to Prairie View Estates in Cando. Charles passed away May 2, 2014, two months shy of their 60 ^th Wedding Anniversary. Dorothy remained living at Prairie View until November of 2022, when she choose to move to the Towner County Living Center.

Dorothy is survived by her son Gary (Nancy), Cando, ND, daughter Carol Lang (Todd Wright), Egeland, ND, daughter Paula Charron (Brad Heer), Fort Pierre, SD, grandchildren Beth (Eric) Nordmark, Souris, ND, John (Michele) Rader, Fargo, ND, Annie (Jesse) Mastrian, Cando, Gretchen (Chris) Klier, Cando, and Michael (Kaloni Berg) Lang, Egeland, greatgrandchildren Brody, Brandon, and Brek Nordmark; Haley Ehlebracht, Grant Rader; Steven and Caidin Snyder; Nash, Reese, and twin Baby Girls Piper and Lainey Mastrian; Gavin, Alivia, and Milla Klier, and Jaxon Lang, brother Harvey (Clarice) Held, Cando, and a number of nieces and nephews.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, William and Kathryn, husband Charles, granddaughter Katie Rader Snyder, and son-in-law David Lang.
