Duane "Dude" Haugen, 84, Cando, ND passed away on Thursday, December 10, 2015 at Towner County Living Center in Cando, ND. Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, December 15, 2015 at Cando Lutheran Church with Pastor Bonnie Weaver officiating. Visitation will be on Monday, December 14, 2015 from 5 to 7 p.m. with a 7 p.m. prayer service at the Dunnigan-Dix Funeral Home in Cando. Burial will be at the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Cando. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday. Casket bearers will be his grandchildren: Rose Haugen, Tammie Haugen, Jesse Bucholz, Tracy Bucholz, Kaitlin Haugen, Melanie Haugen and Joshua Haugen. Music will be provided by Roberta Mundahl and Lynette Lybeck.

Duane was born August 18, 1931 in Cando, ND to Carl and Hilma (Seter) Haugen. He was raised in Cando, ND and graduated from Cando High School. Duane started working for the First State Bank in Cando during high school and he remained there until he went to work for Chad McLeod at the Farmers Mutual Insurance Company which lasted until he retired after 35 years. Duane was united in marriage to Marie Jacobson on May 20, 1956 in Cando. Duane was very active at the Cando Golf Club. He was constantly improving the course for current and future members. He won many local golf tournaments including the Elks Labor Day Tourney. Duane was active in sports his whole life. He kept the clock for 25 years for the Cando High School football and basketball games. He served on the Towner County Commission for 13 years, several as Chairman and on the North Central Planning Commission as President. He was a member of Cando Lutheran Church; Cando Men's Bowling Association and was a Member of the Cando Masonic Lodge for over fifty years. He loved his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Duane is survived by his children: Kerry (Roxann) Haugen of Cando, ND, Mark (Chris) Haugen of Bismarck, ND, Bryan (Lavonne) Haugen of Cando, ND, grandchildren: Rose Haugen, Tammie Haugen, Jesse Bucholz, Tracy Bucholz, Kaitlin Haugen, Melanie Haugen, Joshua Haugen; great-grandchildren: Kennedy, Owen and Lucas Bucholz; brother Norris Haugen of Nevada; sisters Marion (Ben) Janowski of Arizona and Thelma Mersberg of Hawaii. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, sisters Sylvia, Clarice, Marilyn and brothers John, Raymond and Donald.
