Duane Odean Reed, 90, of Cando, ND passed away Monday, June 26, 2023 at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks. The memorial service will be held at the Christian Fellowship Church, 620 3rd Ave. Cando, ND at 2:00 PM July 26, 2023. A closed casket visitation will be from 1:00-2:00 at the Christian Fellowship Church. Burial will be at the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Cando, ND. Military honors will be provided by the Hal Parker Post #79 Cando American Legion and the North Dakota Military Funeral Honors Team.
Duane was born April 19, 1933 in Cando, ND to Marsden and Inez (Nelson) Reed. Duane attended school in Kalispell, MT and Cando, ND. He entered the US Army in 1953 and was honorably discharged in 1955. Duane married Janet Becker on January 13, 1956 in Crookston, MN.
He started farming and dairying on the Denzil Olson farm. In 1961 they moved to the Gonvick and Gully, MN area to farm. After three years they moved to Fisher, MN and Duane worked for Jerome Dunlevy in East Grand Forks, MN. In 1965 he returned to Cando and was employed by the John Deere. While working for the John Deere dealer, he began raising hogs and working his way back into farming. In 1973 he started farming his own land full time. Many years later, after putting his land in CRP, he started a trucking business and also worked for Miller Gravel and Ready Mix, Deplazes Ready Mix and several area farmers.
Duane is survived by his wife, Janet of Cando, children Norman (Rhonda) Reed of Canyon Lake, TX, Phyllis (Dean) Bubach of Alsen, ND and Carol (Bryan) Knutt of Rock Lake, ND, a sister Diane (Kenny) Teubner, sister-in-law Janice Reed, both of Cando and 10 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents Marsden and Inez Reed, a brother Darrel Reed and a grandson Christopher Reed.
Duane was a hardworking, loving husband, father and grandfather who enjoyed working on farm machinery and trucks.
