Elizabeth 'Betty' Rinas, 84, of Cando, ND passed away Saturday, September 29, 2018 at the Towner County Living Center in Cando. Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, October 6, 2018 at 10:00 AM at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Cando, ND with Fr. Daniel Musgrave celebrating mass. Visitation will be held Friday, October 5, 2018 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM with a 7:00 PM Vigil Service at the Dunnigan-Dix Funeral Home in Cando. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will take place at the Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery in Cando. Music will be provided by Mike Noyes, Gladys Fluge and the Sacred Heart Choir. Casket bearers will be Kari DuPreez, Jessica Johnson, Chad Rinas, Christina Nelson, Aaron Bucholz, Marcus Buchholz and Darren Davis. Patrick Freund will be the reader. Gift Bearers will be Kathleen and John Lee.
Elizabeth (Betty) Rinas was born on May 29, 1934 to Irene and Edmund Sand at Crocus, North Dakota. She attended school at Crocus, Egeland and Cando.
Betty married Eitel (Ike) Rinas on June 28, 1951 in the Catholic Church in Rock Lake, ND. They had eight children: Michael, Jerome, Cheryl, Beverly, Theresa, Janelle, Jeffrey and Jodi.
They farmed for 11 years at Crocus. They moved to Rock Lake in 1964 where she worked at the Rock Lake Locker Plant, operating a day care for three years and helped with janitor's work at the Catholic Church. She worked for 35 years between the Rest Haven Healthcare Center and the Towner County Memorial Hospital as a nurse's aide, housekeeper and laundry supervisor, and foot clinic aide. She spent her pastime embroidering dish towels for the hospital auxiliary, making crafts for family members and other people, and playing cards.
Betty is survived by Michael (Joann) Rinas, Jerome (Kelli) Rinas, Cheryl (Darwin) Bucholz, Beverly (Pat) Welch, Theresa McNaught, Janelle (Dan) Buchholz, Jeffrey (Lela) Rinas and Jodi (Mike) Noyes; 16 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren; her sister Joyce Freund, sisters-in-law Violet Sand, Elaine Rinas, Gerda Nylander, Harriet Sand, and a brother-in-law Harold Rinas.
Betty was preceded in death by her husband Eitel (Ike), parents Irene and Ed Sand, brothers: James Sand, Edmund Sand Jr., Anthony Sand and Harold Sand; sisters Margaret Lang, Carol Reid and Janice Kramlich; brothers-in-law Jack Freund, Roman Lang, Roy Kramlich and Kenny Nylander; and granddaughter Candice Welch.
