Errol M. Loken, 76, of Cando, ND passed away Friday, March 30, 2018 at the Towner County Medical Center in Cando, ND. A Celebration of Life Ceremony will be held on Wednesday, April 4, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at the Dunnigan-Dix Funeral Home Chapel in Cando, ND with Rev. Bonnie Weaver officiating. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. on Tuesday, April 3, 2018 at the Dunnigan-Dix Funeral Home in Cando, ND. Visitation on Wednesday will be for one hour prior to the service. Casket bearers will be Darrin Loken, Loren Loken, Nate Loken, Erik Weyrauch, Rick Weyrauch and Mike Wilke. Burial will be at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan, ND at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations are preferred to the Cando Food Pantry, P.O. Box 644, Cando, ND 58324.
Errol Melvyn Loken was born May 28th, 1941 in Maddock, ND the son of Albert and Wilma (Wurgler) Loken. He attended grade school at Twin Lake Township in Benson County through the 8th grade and then attended Cando High School, where he enjoyed playing hockey. He then joined the Army in 1960. He served both in France and Germany. On August 1st 1964, he married Jan Delvo. They made their home in Cando, ND.
When he moved back to Cando, he worked on a farm for Maynard Veum, doing a little bit of everything. Then he joined Leo Sand helping with cement work throughout the area. He then discovered his passion. He became an over-the-road trucker. He despised Chicago and New York City, but this did not hinder his love for the road. He just recently fully retired in 2013. He was the type that didn't like to "sit still." February to November NASCAR filled his weekends. He loved a good cribbage match and would never cut the cards. He was an avid visitor to family and friends and would help whenever he possibly could.
He is survived by his children; Darrin (Nora) of Los Cruces NM, Loren (Robbie) of Crookston, MN, Shelly Charette of York, ND, and Shalane (Matthew) Sherlock of Mandan, ND, Grandchildren; Nathaniel (Darrin), Matthew (Loren) and Colbi (Shelly), Siblings; Janice (Dale) Riggin of Great Falls MT, Vera (Edward) Lee of Cando ND, Myron Loken of Belle Fouche SD, Ardell (Suzanne) Loken of Devils Lake ND, Arlene Loken of Fort Collins CO, Arland (Bonnie) Loken of Murdo SD, and Rita (Dean) Sorensen of Sioux Falls SD, multiple nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and a few great-great nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, one sister-in-law, one brother-in-law, two nephews and one niece.
