Eugene Lewis Norheim, 88, a loving husband, father, and friend, of Rock Lake ND, passed away on Wednesday, September 2 nd , 2020 at the Towner County Medical Center in Cando, ND. A visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 8 th , 2020 from 10am to 12pm at the Dunnigan-Dix Funeral Home in Cando, followed by a Private Family Funeral Service at 2:00pm. A burial will be held at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery in Mandan, ND on Thursday, September 10 th , 2020 at 2:00pm with military honors conducted by Bismarck VFW Post # 1326 and the North Dakota Military Funeral Honors Team.
Due to Covid-19, the following CDC recommendations are highly encouraged: social distancing, hand cleansing and sanitization, and wearing masks. Eugene was born January 30 th , 1932 in Minneapolis, MN to Rudolph and Bessie (Geyer) Norheim. The family moved to Rock Lake in 1935. Eugene graduated from Rock Lake High School and attended North Dakota State University for two years. He enlisted into the United States Marine Corps and served his Country in the Korean War, in Korea and after served on the Marine Corps Rifle Team. After he was honorably discharged as Lance Corporal, he returned to Rock Lake in 1954 and farmed with his father. He was united in marriage to Kathleen Beth Scobba on June 17 th , 1956 in Perth, ND. Eugene remained on the family farm until his death.
Eugene served on the Rock Lake Township Board for many years, Rock Lake School Board for over twenty years, Board Director on NDTC in Devils Lake, ND, Board Director on United Communications in Langdon, ND, VFW of Rock Lake Post Commander and member of organization, American Legion in Bisbee, ND, Korean War Veterans Association, AMVETS in Fargo, ND, Life Member of the Marine Corps League, 1 st Marine Division Association, DAV, Turtle Mountain Rifle & Pistol Club, lifetime member of the NRA and achieved lifetime Masters Class in the High Power Rifle Competition.
Eugene enjoyed hunting, fishing, skiing, and traveling with his wife Beth both domestic and international.
Eugene is survived by his wife, Kathleen Beth Norheim of Rock Lake, ND; daughter, Sandra (John) Murphy of Denver, CO; two grandchildren, Tom Murphy of Cape Town, South Africa and Erin Murphy of Denver, CO; and two great-grandchildren, Charly Murphy and Ava Waeckerlin.
Eugene was preceded in death by his parents and son, Curtis Norheim of Fargo, ND.
