Floyd Henry Berge, 96, of Fargo, ND, formerly of Cando, ND, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 7, at Elim long-term care facility in Fargo, ND, with his family nearby.  Visitation will be held at the Dunnigan-Dix Funeral Home in Cando on Monday, April 22, 2024 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with a Family Service at 6:30 p.m. Funeral Services will be on Tuesday, April 23, 2024 at 11:00 am at the Cando United Methodism Church with Dr. Timothy McDowell officiating. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service on Tuesday at the church. Burial will be at the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Cando, ND.

Floyd Berge was born at Good Samaritan Hospital in Rugby, ND, on June 21, 1927, to Henry and Flossie (Shively) Berge.  He grew up on a farm just outside Cando and graduated from Cando High School in 1945.  After attending UND for a year, majoring in engineering, he moved back to Cando to help with the family farm. Floyd married Marlene Bergdahl on October 14, 1961, at the Cando Lutheran Church.  Their first daughter, Ann, was born in 1964, and their second daughter, Mari Lynn, was born in 1967.  Floyd was co-owner of the Cando Equipment Company (a John Deere firm) in the 1970s. From 1980 to 1997, he served as the Towner County Director of Tax Equalization. After "retiring" at the age of 70, Floyd continued to work part-time jobs such as assisting with bookwork and minor maintenance for Dix apartments and assisting with bookwork for the Towner County Record Herald.  Floyd lived in Cando until 2010, when he and Marlene moved to Fargo to be closer to their children and grandchildren.

Floyd was known for his engineering skills in woodworking and electronics. He loved to build, create, and fix things and he spent time in his shop almost every day.  He also loved working outside and always had a beautiful yard. Floyd was very involved with the Cando United Methodist Church, serving as the treasurer and teaching Sunday School among other activities in the church.  He was a member of the Cando Community Choir earlier in life, and later participated in many of the Cando community theatre productions at the Cando Audi Theatre. He was also an avid reader, preferring mysteries and crime fiction. After moving to Fargo, he could often be found playing pool at the independent living community where he and Marlene lived.

Floyd is survived by his daughters Ann (PJ) Brown of Ham Lake, MN, and Mari Lynn (Mike) Borr of Fargo, ND; granddaughters Katherine Brown of Maple Grove, MN, and Victoria Brown of Ham Lake, MN; sister-in-law Delores/Babe (Bergdahl) Lyons of Grand Rapids, MN; sister-in-law Arlene (Klipfel) Bergdahl of Fargo, ND; and many loving nieces and nephews and their families.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Marlene (Bergdahl), parents Henry and Flossie (Shively) Berge, and sister Edna (Berge) Brown.

Floyd's family would like to thank the wonderful staff of Elim for taking excellent care of him and Hospice of the Red River Valley for making his last few weeks more comfortable.
