Frances Eda Peterson Hauschulz, 94 of Stanley, ND, formerly of Rock Lake, ND, passed away on Monday, November 20, 2017 at Mountrail Bethel Home in Stanley, ND. Services will be held on Saturday, November 25, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at All Nations Lutheran Church in Rock Lake, ND with Rev. Scott Ramey officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday. Burial will be in All Nations Lutheran Cemetery, Rock Lake, ND. Casket bearers will be Erika Simpson, Drew Simpson, Robbie Peterson, Bob Hauschulz, Sharon Hauschulz, Mavis Carter, Terry Carter and Ronnie Rodenbiker. Honorary bearers will be Darren and Mindy, Donna and Eric, Erika, Drew, Parker, Gunnar, Bode, Elizabeth and all relatives and friends.
Frances Eda (Peterson) Hauschulz, age 94, was born on a farm near Perth, ND on April 5, 1923. She died November 20, 2017, and was a resident of Mountrail Bethel Home since 2009. Frances was the first child of Carl and Olga (Wendt) Peterson. She grew up on a farm not far from Rocklake, ND. She attended school in Rocklake and graduated valedictorian in 1941. Her favorite class was English.
She and Norbert Hauschulz were neighbors and dated---going to dances and movies. They were married in 1943. Frances and Norbert bought a farm from his grandfather. The house was the one built by the grandparents when they moved out of the Sod Hut on the homestead. They never did have running water on the farm except running by foot with a pail in hand. Farming was the life, and Frances helped make it a good life as a housewife, good cook, grain hauler, raising chickens, milking cows, taking kids to school, mother and wife. Frances was known to her friends and relatives by several names: Frances, Fran, Frannie, Mom and Grandma. But for some reason, Norb called her Toots.
Two daughters were born: Laraine—for Laraine Day, and Deanna—named for Deanna Durbin (movie actresses). In 1959 they moved into Rocklake and enjoyed in-door running water. They moved to Minot in 1986 due to being closer to medical facilities. Frances moved back to Rocklake to her old house in 1989 after Norb passed away.
Frances loved all kinds of card games, crossword puzzles, uno and scrabble. Pinochle and whist were played at family gatherings and get-togethers. She enjoyed watching the Rocklake Roadrunners softball team, TV baseball and tending to her flowers by the house.
Frances' 70th birthday was celebrated with an old-time dance and lunch at the farm of some friends. Frances was involved with the Rocklake Senior Group. She never lost her faith with God. Frances was loved very much and will be missed in our lives.
Frances is survived by her daughters Laraine(Steve) Rank and Deanna Tudy Haugen; Grandchildren Darren (Mindy) Haugen and Donna (Eric) Simpson; Great Grand Children Erika, Drew, Gunnar and Elizabeth Simpson and Parker and Bode Haugen. She was preceded in death by her husband Norbert, Parents Carl and Olga Peterson, Brother Vernon Pete Peterson and Son-In-Law Lowell Haugen.
