Genevieve R. Metzger, 93, of Crookston, MN, formerly of Cando, ND, passed away Sunday, September 13, 2015 at the Villa St. Vincent in Crookston, MN. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m., Saturday, September 19, 2015 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Cando, ND with Rev. Mathew Pamplaniyil officiating. Burial will follow at the Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery in Cando. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the services at the church. Casket bearers will be Vernon Metzger, Mark Metzger, Gary Metzger, Jim Metzger, Arne Metzger and Bob Roppel. Honorary casket bearers will be her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Music will be provided by Gladys Fluge, Tom Freund and the Sacred Heart Choir.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, PO Box 399, Cando, ND 58324 or the Cando Swimming Pool, PO Box 903, Cando, ND 58324.
Genevieve (Hettwer) Metzger was born in Calio, ND on December 22, 1921 to Frank and Clara Hettwer. She finished school in the Calio area then worked in Devils Lake several years and in Minneapolis for 4 years.
She was married to Marcus Metzger at Eagle Pass, Texas on February 11, 1945 and returned home later that year when Mark was sent to the war in Japan. In 1946 she and Mark returned to the Calio area before moving to Cando in 1956. She worked as a nurse's assistant at Cando Memorial Hospital for 26 years.
She was a member of the Christian Mothers and The Altar Society of the Sacred Heart Church in Cando.
Gene is survived by her sons Vernon (Charlotte) Metzger of Naperville, IL; Mark (Roseann) Metzger of Kalispell, MT; Gary (Sheila) Metzger of Cheyenne, WY; Jim (Susan) Metzger of Williston, ND; Terry Metzger of Hutchinson, MN and Arne Metzger of Jamestown, CO. Daughters Linda (Howard) Kremer of Fargo, ND; Judy (Tim) Spiekermeier of Story, WY and Carla (Bob) Roppel of Erskine, MN, as well as many grandchildren and great grandchildren, and brother Victor from Omaha, NE.
She was preceded in death by her husband Mark, grandson Mark, parents, brothers Vincent, Clarence and Anthony and sister Winifred.
