George was born in New City Township of Towner County, rural Bisbee, ND on November 6, 1916, to Peter and Margaretha (Kraemer) Phillipp. He graduated from Bisbee High School in 1934. George was known for his work ethic that started at an early age. In addition to farming, he had a hand in building many of the homes and other buildings in the community, including Holy Rosary Catholic Church, of which he was a faithful member. He was always willing to lend a helping hand, whether it was sharpening saw blades, cobbling shoes, surveying land, volunteering for the fire department, or serving the community in other ways. He was also an avid curler and enjoyed his time at the Bisbee Curling Club. In 1942, he entered the Army Air Force and served during World War II, receiving an honorable discharge in 1945.
On November 6, 1950, George married Stella Lang at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Cando, ND. While raising their three children, George continued to farm until he retired in 1985. During his retirement, he enjoyed having a house full of grandchildren, attending auction sales, and spending time with his many brothers and sisters. In his later years, he valued the fellowship of his friends and neighbors, including the Bisbee Senior Citizens.
George is survived by his children: Ronald Phillipp of Rolette, ND, Diane (Daniel) Johnson of Pembina, ND, and Carla (Randy) Rost of Rolette, ND; grandchildren: Eric (Kristi) Johnson, Cindy Johnson, Amanda Rost, Cassie (Jason) Murphy, Rebecca (Nate) Pederson, and Kevin Rost; great grandchildren: Landon Rost, Jackson Pederson, and Kira Johnson; sister-in-law: Ann (Jim) Berg and numerous nieces and nephews.
