Glenn Olson, 95, passed away Monday, December 16, 2013, at Sanford Palliative Care Unit in Fargo, ND.

Glenn was born October 29, 1918, in Wildrose, ND, to Pete and Varda Olson.  His dad worked on the railroad.  As a result, the family lived in section houses in various towns in North Dakota.  As a young man growing up in Wildrose, he would often ride the freight trains without his parent's knowledge.

He married Charlotte Gamme on August 1, 1941, at the Lutheran Parsonage in Crookston, MN.  After they were married, Glenn worked at the Beltrami Farmers Union Elevator until 1942 when they moved to St. Vincent, MN.  Here he became elevator manager for the St. Vincent Farmers Elevator.  After a very brief stay as elevator manager in Forman, ND, he jumped at the chance to accept the job as manager of the Crookston Milling and Elevator in Cando, ND in 1946.  Glenn was involved with several business ventures in Cando, including a restaurant, Canfield's mercantile store, a partnership in Northern Oil Co., and co-owned Northern Motors.

Glenn was active in community affairs.  He served 12 years on the city council. 25 years as a volunteer fireman and served on the Cando Lutheran Church Council.  He helped organize and build the gun club, acted as a Boy Scout Leader and volunteered for community work. Glenn loved to fish, hunt and golf- all of which he really enjoyed.  He made many motorcycle trips in the US and Canada on his Goldwing, along with brother-in-law Bob Miller.

In September of 2010, Glenn and Charlotte moved to Fargo to live with their son, Lyle.  They were well loved and cared for in his home.  It is where they recently celebrated their 72nd wedding anniversary.

Glenn is survived by his wife, Charlotte; daughter Carol Holm (Nick Powell) of Atlanta, GA; son Lyle of Fargo; daughter Donna (Gary) Eggl of Bismarck; daughter Gayle Olson of Norman, OK; grandchildren: Pamela Upgren of Bismarck, Mike Eggl of Bismarck, Tony Olson of Devils Lake, Alex Olson of Devils Lake, Lauren Olson of Leeds and Nick Suit of Norman, OK; great-grandchildren: Josh and Jordan Upgren, Elizabeth and Samuel Eggl; his sister Jeanette Jolly and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his sons Mark Anthony and Roger Glenn Olson.  He was also preceded in death by his brother Sylvester Olson, and his sisters: Laura Jonason, Pearl Wagner, and Delores Johnson.

Visitation will be Saturday, December 21, 2013, from 5 to 7 pm at the Dunnigan Dix Funeral Home of Cando, ND.  Visitation will also take place for two hours before the time of the services at the church on Sunday.

Services will be Sunday, December 22, 2013 at 2:00pm at the Cando Lutheran Church with the Rev. Bonnie Weaver officiating.

Casket Bearers will be Mike Eggl, Joshua Upgren, Jordan Upgren, Tony Olson, Alex Olson and Nick Suit.

Memorials are preferred to the Cando Lutheran Church or a charity of the giver's choosing.
