Gordon O. Olson, formerly of Cando, ND peacefully entered eternity on February 16 th , 2017 in Sun City, AZ. Gordon was devoted to his family being survived by his loving wife Ellen of 55 years, sister Joan Huber of Kansas City, children Mark (Kari) Olson of Hazen ND, Beverly (Jim) Totsch of Oswego IL, Paul (Kimberly) Olson of Warwick RI, 11 grandchildren and 4 great granddaughters in addition to numerous nieces, nephews & cousins. Gordon was preceded in death by his parents Gilbert and Pearl Olson.
Gordon graduated from Cando High School in 1954 and attended the University of ND for one year before transferring to the ND State School of Science from 1955-57 where he studied Electrical Technology. After graduation, he spent 2 years serving in the US Army before starting his career as a second generation Electrical Contractor with Olson Electric. In addition to his family, Gordon had a passion for service to the community of Cando. He sat on the City Council, Fair Board, Commercial Club, Scout Master, and was on the founding Board of Directors for the Towner County State Bank. Gordon played a critical role in saving and restoring the Audi Theater in 1983 along with other leaders in Cando. The Audi is enjoyed by the community to this day. He was also president of the ND Electrical Contractor Association, a 50 year member of the Masonic Lodge, Order of the Eastern Star, and Kem Temple Shriners.
Gordon enjoyed golfing, card playing, building his cabin at Lake Upsilon where he and his family enjoyed 40 summers, was an avid wood worker always willing to assist friends who needed help, and enjoyed getting beat by his family in pinochle and cribbage. He was fortunate to be the recipient of a lung transplant which provided an additional 17 years with his family and friends. In appreciation of this great gift, Gordon volunteered time helping the Organ Donor Network in AZ.
Graveside services will be held on Monday, July 31, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. at the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Cando, ND with Pastor Bonnie Weaver officiating. Military Honors will be provided by the Hal Parker Post #79 Cando American Legion.
