Hazel Nils (Himle) Johnson, 91, Cando, ND, passed away on Tuesday, August 4, 2015, at the Towner County Living Center in Cando. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, August 8, 2015 at 2:00 PM at the Cando United Methodist Church in Cando, ND with Rev. Rick Craig and Pastor Michael Rohrer officiating. Visitation will begin one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will take place at the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Cando, ND. Casket bearers will be Bruce Qvammen, Brian Qvammen, George Anderson, Kermit Himle, Alan Himle, Wes Himle and Curt Himle. Honorary casket bearers will be her grandchildren Leanna, George, Krista, Lindsay, Alyssa, Steven, Catherine, Laurel and Brooke. Music will be provided by Laona Eggl and Pastor Michael Rohrer.
Hazel and her twin brother Harold, were born March 14, 1924 to Anna Muri and Nils Himle in Wolford, ND. Hazel taught school in Rolette, ND for several years during the early 50's. In 1954, Hazel married Lawrence Albert Johnson, a farmer from Cando, ND. The couple moved to the Johnson farmstead where together they farmed and raised a family.
Hazel dedicated her life to God and her family. Her greatest joy was that of being a loving wife and mother. Hazel took an active role in her church and community. She formerly served as President of the Cando Parent Teachers Association (PTA), and also served on the Board of the Lake Region Human Services Center in Devils Lake, ND.
Hazel is survived by her children, Kevin (Jessica) Johnson, Julie (Steve) Guthrie; 9 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, Anna and Nils Himle, her husband, Lawrence, daughter, Karen (Greg) Anderson, brothers, Laurence, Arnold, Harold and Joe, sisters, Thelma and Sadie, and nephew, Douglas Himle.
