Obituary

Hazel Virginia Krack, age 85 of Cando, passed into eternity early February 7, 2023 at the Towner County Living Center with her brother Paul at her side.  A funeral service will be held on Monday, February 20, 2023 at 2:00 pm at the Dunnigan-Dix Funeral Home in Cando with LeRoy Sandford officiating. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Monday, February 20, 2023 for two hours prior to the service. The burial will be at the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Cando, ND in the spring.

Hazel, eldest daughter of Elmer and Eunice Krack nee Hughes was born November 8, 1937 at Bowdon, ND.  The Krack family moved to the Hughes/Krack Farm south of Cando in 1939.  Hazel attended grade school in Cando, ND, graduating from Senior High as valedictorian of her class in 1955.  She began college at Minot State College in the fall of that year and taught at Coolin Township School in 1956-1958. Hazel returned to Minot State and completed her Standard Certificate, teaching at Mylo, ND for two more years.  In 1961 she answered God's call to His ministry.  She served in South Dakota, Utah, Colorado, Nebraska, returning to North Dakota in 1993 to care for her aging parents.  After their deaths in1995 and 1996 Hazel stepped aside from the ministry and moved into an apartment in Cando.  In the following years she cared for the elderly, worked for the ND Department of Tourism, bought a house in 1998, became a Librarian at the Cando Public Library, was secretary at an Insurance Agency, did janitorial work, tutored Home Students as an outreach of Cando Public Schools, and worked on local farms raising cabbages and other produce for local farmers markets and grocery stores.  Hazel also kept financial records for a local repair shop until illness this fall caused her to resign from that job and the library.  Throughout Hazel's life a foundation of teaching and serving those around her guided her spiritual and natural endeavors.  Hazel was known, respected and liked by the community and acquaintances.

Hazel's parents and their first child, Walter Wilfred, preceded her in death.  She is survived by two brothers, Paul at Cando, and David (Marlene), Devils Lake and a sister Margaret Siegel (Jerry), Brookings, SD, along with many nephews and nieces and former Workers/Associates from her time in the ministry of Jesus's Gospel.
