Hilda DeArton, 93, Cando, ND passed away on Thursday, January 22, 2015 at Towner County Living Center in Cando, ND. Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday, January 28, 2015 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 304 3rd Ave, Cando at 10:30 a.m. with Father Joseph D'Aco celebrating the Mass. Visitation will be Tuesday, January 27th from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Dunnigan-Dix Funeral Home, Cando, ND followed by a Rosary and Vigil Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m. Burial will be at the Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery, Cando in the spring. Casket bearers will be Mark Hendrickson, Frank Peyerl, Bruce Olsen, Thomas Vander Wal, Brad Eback and Errol Loken. Music will be provided by Wayne Freund, Marguerite Freund and the Sacred Heart Choir.

Hilda was born December 20, 1921 in Cando, North Dakota to Michael and Teresa Hartl née Becker. She had eight siblings, Teresa Peyerl, Millie Mattern, Agnes Reid, Michael Hartl, Carl Hartl, Geraldine Hendrickson, Irene Westmiller and Ann Olsen.

Hilda was united in marriage to John DeArton (dec'd 1960) on October 3, 1945. She resided mainly in Cando during her lifetime, working as a waitress at Coffee Cup Cafe and ABL Lanes in Cando and Trails West in Devils Lake. She also worked for Sioux Manufacturing in Fort Totten.

Hilda loved to cross stitch and made tea towels for family and friends. Attending auctions and finding bargains was another favorite activity. Hilda also enjoyed visiting with friends, gardening and created big flower and kitchen gardens until unable to do so. While she loved her gardens, the squirrels visiting them were not so well liked.

Hilda is survived by her children, Raymond (Adelia) DeArton, Terrance (Carol) DeArton, Janice (James) Eback, Richard (Elaine) DeArton, sister Ann Olsen, nine grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
