Obituary

Ila Mae Brandt, 100, of Cando, ND passed away on Friday, February 16, 2024 at the Towner County Living Center in Cando. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 27, 2024 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. followed by a service at 6:00 p.m. at the Dunnigan-Dix Funeral Home in Cando, ND. Burial will be in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Cando, ND in the spring.

Memorials in Ila Mae's name are preferred to Nicaragua Mission, c/o Cando Assembly of God Church, 1107 2nd Ave, Cando, ND 58324 or North Dakota Adult & Teen Challenge, 1406 2nd St NW, Mandan, ND  58554.

Ila was born to Melvin and Anna (Ebert) Johnson on July 7, 1923 in Cando, ND.  She attended school in Cando and graduated from the Cando High School.

She married Jay A. Brandt on October 19, 1941 in Cando, ND.  They farmed for 53 years in the Cando, ND area and had lived on the current farm for 58 years.  They retired from farming in 1994 but remained living on the farm.  They had two children, Barbara and Roger.

Ila Mae attended the Cando Assembly of God Church for 64 years, and was a Sunday School teacher for 45 years.  She also enjoyed sewing quilts for an orphanage in Nicaragua.

She was preceded in death by her husband Jay, her parents Melvin and Anna (Ebert) Johnson, a daughter Barbara (Loren) Molskness, brother Darwin Johnson, Sister-in-law Demaris (Darwin) Johnson, sister Phyllis Luithle, sister-in-law Lavonne (Brandt) Wagenman and Brother-in-law Harlan Wagenman, Brother-in-law Robert (Marian) Brandt, Brother-in-law Durb (Nina) and Brother-in-law Ronnie (Ester) Brandt.

She is survived by a son Roger (Sharon) Brandt of Tucson, AZ; a Son-in-law Loren Molskness of Albert Lee, MN; three grandsons, Brentley (Shari) Molskness of Minooka, IL, Bradley (Roxann) Molskness of Dayton, MN and Bruce (Kristi) Molskness of Matthews, NC and 6 great-grandchildren: Stephanie (Richard) Meyer of Minooka, IL, Katie (Chad) Kruger of Oswego, IL, Norah, Eliah, Jarin and Lainey Molskness of Matthews, NC and Brother-in-law Erwin Luithle of Spanaway, WA.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Roger Rance, Gaylon Sieler, Kent Brandt, Larry Brandt, Ross Myer and Paul Wagenman.
