Ingrid (Steine) Strand, 97, of Bisbee, ND, passed away on the early morning of Sunday, May 28, 2023 at the Towner County Living Center in Cando, ND. A celebration of her life will be held on Friday, June 16, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. at the Dunnigan-Dix Funeral Home in Cando with Pastor Bonnie Weaver officiating. The burial will take place following the service at the Bisbee Lutheran Cemetery.

Ingrid (Steine) Strand was born on July 12, 1925 at the family farm near Lillehammer, Norway to Iver and Martha (Blegen) Steine. She was the sixth of seven siblings.

Ingrid was baptized in 1925 and confirmed in 1939 at Follebu Church. She went to primary school in 1932 at Fjerdum School in Segalstad bru. Her comprehensive schooling was interrupted with the invasion of Hitler's forces, who took up occupancy at her family farm. The forces used it as a command post. Three of her brothers were helping Norway's military forces and the rest of the family were forced to flee from their home. Eventually after a few days Ingrid's family returned to find most structures were burned down. Miraculously, the main house, cow house, and barn were spared. Even during this difficult time, Ingrid was able to finish her high school education in the spring of 1942.

Ingrid felt a deep calling to become a nurse through the friendship that she had with her cousin, Dr. Einar Bleken, and his wife, Signid, who was also a nurse. She received her RN degree from Aaker Hospital in Oslo, Norway in 1951. Ingrid's nursing career included working on the SS Stavanger Fjord passenger ship, which sailed between Oslo and New York City.  Ingrid then immigrated to the US in 1952 and worked at Great Neck Care Center in Long Island, NY, before coming to North Dakota where she accepted a nursing position at the ND State Sanitarium San Haven, by Dunseith, ND.

Ingrid's connection to North Dakota was her uncle and aunt, Lodvar and Magda Boe, who are parents to Oliver, Sidney, and Harold. Even though it was harvest time, Lodvar, and his son, Sidney, went and picked her up at the train station in Devils Lake, ND. Little did she know she would spend her remaining years on a farm within miles of Lodvar's farm.

She married Edmund Strand on January 28, 1953 in Devils Lake. They made their home north of Bisbee where his grandparents homesteaded. She was a lifelong farmer alongside Edmund. She was a member of the Bisbee Lutheran Church, Sons of Norway of Cando, and Bisbee Lutheran Ladies Aid.

In 2014, Ingrid moved into Prairieview Estates in Cando and Towner County Living Center in January of 2023.

Ingrid will be remembered for her infectious smile, contagious laugh, her joyful humming, and her unconditional love for her family, which also included her animals. Her lefse, Rømmegrøt, and her pickled herring were family favorites during Christmas Eve suppers, which she hosted well in to her 80s. She truly was a farm girl at heart and had true grit with a hint of stubbornness. Her love for her family and Norwegian heritage was still apparent with her distinct brogue that never left her. God bless this sweet woman that lived simply but loved endlessly.

Ingrid was proceeded in death by her husband, Edmund, her parents, her six siblings, and numerous in-laws, nieces, nephews, and cousins. She is survived by many nieces and nephews in Norway, the Boe family, and nieces and nephews of her husband, Edmund
