Iverne Phinney's Obituary
Iverne Phinney, 91, of Cando, passed away December 31, 2012, at the Towner County Living Center of Cando. Services will be held on Saturday, January 5, 2013 at 10:30 A.M. at the Dunnigan-Dix Funeral Home in Cando with Rev. Michael Rohrer, officiating. Visitation will begin one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in the spring at Zion Cemetery in rural Cando, ND.
Iverne Phinney was born on July 10, 1921 to Harry and Susie (Schreckengast) Phinney in Rugby, ND. She graduated from Cando High School and attended Minot State College and UND. She taught school in Leeds, York, Bisbee and Egeland before she became Superintendent of Schools in Towner County for ten years. She had been a resident of the Wagon Wheel Inn for the past nine years. Iverne was active in the Red Hats, Brethren Church and enjoyed baking, playing cards, writing poetry, bowling, music, children, teaching and performing tap-dancing. Iverne will be remembered as a very generous lady.
Iverne is survived by many close friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, and her brothers and sisters.

Iverne was such a wonderful, sweet, funny , nice lady to be around. I"ll miss seeing her, but i know she'll always be with us.

I was saddened to hear of Iverne's passing. my sister Ella Mae Belle sent me the o-bit, I was however sorry our school at Zion was not mentioned , she was such a great teacher and friend, she always wore highheals and she would come out and play ball with us running the bases in her heals, winter time, we all took our turn staying at the school when it was storming with her, for lunch we always had an apple and a candy bar. some that I remember that attended the zion school were, Lydia westameir, Bethal Dahl,Merrill Litsey, Jack Olson, wayne Burkhart, Frank Seibert, Ella Me Belle John Peterson and myself and many more, they don't make teachers like that any more. Sad but true, I for one have a whole lot of memmmories my Love Betty Schneider
So sad to hear of Iverne's passing. She was one of my favorite teachers! I get the Cando paper so read of her passing. My husband and i have lived in Bonners Ferry Idaho for 42 years and enjoy the cando paper. Ruth Peterson
