J ames John Peters, 98, Bisbee, ND, passed away on Saturday, May 13, 2023 at the Towner County Living Center in Cando, ND. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:00 p.m. on June 17, 2023 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Bisbee, ND with Father Petro Ndunguru presiding. Burial will take place in Holy Rosary Catholic Cemetery, Bisbee, ND. Honorary urn bearers will be all nieces and nephews of James.
James Peters was born October 3, 1924 to Jacob and Magdalena (Volk) Peters in Rugby, ND. In 1948, he moved with his parents to a farm north of Bisbee. In 1965, he and his parents moved into the town of Bisbee. After the death of his father in 1978, James continued to live with his mother, taking care of her until she moved into a nursing home.
James raised small grains and cattle until he retired in 1986 at age 62. He always looked forward to having coffee with the group that met every afternoon at the Chocolate Shop in Bisbee. James also enjoyed playing bingo and doing jigsaw puzzles. He was an avid gardener and was always willing to lend a hand to anyone who needed it.
In 2016, James moved into assisted living in Devils Lake and then to Towner County Living Center in Cando in 2021.
James is survived by his brother, Charles (Dorothy) Peters, Cando, ND, sisters, Louisa (Gene) Newberry, Oak Park, IL, and Sr. Gemma Peters, OSB, Annunciation Monastery, Bismarck, ND, and many nieces and nephews.
James was preceded in death by his parents, Jacob and Magdalena Peters, and sisters, Marie Burkhartsmeier, Isabella Sinden, Monica Thacker, and Frances Sattler.
