Joanne F. Knutson, 75, of Cando, ND, passed away Saturday, March 26, 2016 at her home in Cando, ND. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, March 30, 2016 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Cando, ND with Fr. Joseph D'Aco officiating. Burial will be held at a later date at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery in Mandan. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday. Honorary bearers will be Joanne's grandchildren. Music will be provided by Tom Freund, Gladys Fluge and the Sacred Heart Choir.

Joanne was born August 9, 1940, in Powers Lake, ND to Joseph and Evelyn (Matejcek) Skalicky. She grew up in Powers Lake and graduated from Powers Lake High School in 1960. She moved to Devils Lake, ND where she met Robert Knutson. The couple was married on April 23, 1965 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Devils Lake. Joanne and Robert moved to Cando after their marriage where they raised their three children. Joanne worked at various restaurants in Cando and also for Jorde's Potatoes. She enjoyed flowers and tending to her garden. Joanne fought an amazing twenty-six year battle with cancer.

Joanne is survived by her husband Robert of Cando, ND; her children Valerie (Michael) Hoffman of Excelsior, MN; Barbara (William) Sitzman of Indianapolis, IN and Dale (Tracy) Knutson of Spring, TX; her grandchildren: Hattie and Maxwell Hoffman; Brandon, Bryce and Ashley Sitzman and Daltyn and Bradyn Knutson; great-grandchild Alynn Sitzman and six brothers and sisters.

Joanne was preceded in death by her parents and a sister.
