Joel E. Shock, 57, of Fargo, ND, formerly of Cando, ND passed away Friday, October 24, 2014 at his home in Fargo, ND. Services will be held Saturday, November 1, 2014 at the Christian Fellowship Church at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Les Koenig officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the services at Christian Fellowship Church. Burial will be at the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Cando, North Dakota. Casket bearers will be Kevin Kessler, Corey Shock, Darin Shock, Travis Shock, Michael Shock, Matthew Shock and Jason Lura. Music will be from Karen Braaten and Catherine Anfinson.

Joel Edward Shock was born in Cando, North Dakota on November 14, 1956 to Helen (Peggy Clark) Shock and Thor (Bobby) Shock. He attended Cando Public School and graduated from the University of North Dakota in 1979 and Law School in 1982. Joel was a member of the Kappa Sigma fraternity. He moved to Aurora, Colorado in 1982. Joel and Ellen Hanson were united in marriage in Hatton, North Dakota in 1984 and made their home in Aurora where he was employed as an investment advisor, an instructor at the College for Financial Planning and practiced law as a business and litigation attorney and held various other jobs. He recently was employed as a business consultant.

In 2003 he married Cynthia Graff in Aurora, Colorado. In 2011 Joel moved back to North Dakota.

Joel's joys in life were family, watching his nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews grow up, keeping in touch with friends, history, especially family history, reading and carpentry.

Joel will be missed by his mother Helen "Peggy" Shock Overland and step-father Allan Overland of Cando, North Dakota, brothers Donald (Linda) of Cando, ND and Gary of Cando, ND, sister-in-law Cindy Nelms (Joe) of Jamestown, ND, special friend Vicki Clapp of Fargo, ND, and many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews. Joel was preceded in death by his father and brother Allen and sister-in-law Lynette, grandparents Tom and Katie Shock and Norman and Christine Clark.
