Obituary

Kenneth "Ken" States, 70, Bisbee ND died Friday, October 26, 2012 at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, ND. Services will be held on Friday, November 2, 2012 at 2 p.m. at Bisbee Lutheran Church. Visitation will be held at the Dunnigan-Dix Funeral Home on Thursday, November 1, 2012 from 4 to 7 p.m. with a family service at 7:00 p.m. Visitation on Friday will be at the church one hour prior to the service. Military Honors will be provided by the Bisbee American Legion Post #129 & North Dakota Military Funeral Honors Team. Interment will be at the Bisbee Lutheran Cemetery, Bisbee, ND.

Kenneth D. States was born December 28, 1941 in Cando, ND to Floyd and Tillie (Oakland) States. Ken was raised in Sarles, ND and attended Sarles High School graduating in 1959. Ken served in the Navy from 1960 - 1964. He served at Green Cove Spring, Florida Base, Roosevelt Roads, Puerto Rico Base, and USS Rushmore LSD25. In 1965 Ken moved to Virginia where he married Nancy Tucker. From this union he had one son, Mark. He worked in the lumber business from 1965 - 1977. Ken moved back to North Dakota in 1979 and married Wanda Galow in August of 1986, and from this union had two children, Cody and Joselynn. Ken and Wanda owned and operated K&W Hartz Grocery Store in Bisbee from 1986 - 1997. In 1997, Ken started managing Tom's Cash & Carry Lumber Company in Rolla, ND until retiring in 2004. After retirement Ken enjoyed being a part of the Bisbee Volunteer Fire Dept. and the American Legion Post #129. In his spare time, Ken loved to golf, fish, his pool and dart leagues, and playing a few games of pinochle with the guys. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, and he always knew how to make someone laugh.

Kenneth is survived by his wife, Wanda: sons, Mark (Cari) States of Midlothian, VA and Cody (special friend Allison Hunter) of West Fargo, ND: daughter, Joselynn (Chase) Mattern of Bisbee, ND: grandchildren, Devyn States and Kolten States: one sister, Tessie Swenson (special friend Walter Ashenfelter) of Bisbee, ND: one sister-in-law, Lynn States of Bisbee, ND and several nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Floyd and Tillie, and his brothers: Richard (Ruthie), Floyd, Ole and Doug States.

Wanda,So sorry to of your loss.  There will never be another Kenny thats for sure.  Hope you are all doing well. I will not be able to make it to the funeral but I want you to know I  am thinking of you.  Take care of yourself and the kids.  Keep all the wonderful memories close.
