Kent Michael Haugen, 60, of Cando, N.D., went to his heavenly home on April 23, 2018 at the Towner County Medical Center in Cando, ND after a long courageous battle with cancer.  His devotion to his family and his firm belief in God supported him in his struggle and ultimately gave him peace. A celebration of Kent's life will be held at 4:00 PM Saturday, April 28, 2018 at the Cando Lutheran Church in Cando, ND with Rev. Bonnie Weaver and Pastor Michael Rohrer officiating.  Visitation will take place from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM Friday, April 27, 2018 at the Dunnigan Dix Funeral Home in Cando, ND followed by a 7:00 PM Prayer Service.  Visitation will continue one hour before the service at the church.  A full military burial will be held at the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Cando, ND. Music will be provided by Joni Morlock and Catherine Anfinson. Military Honors will be provided by the Hal Parker Post #79 Cando American Legion and the North Dakota Military Funeral Honors Team.

Kent was born to the late Don and Carol (Farbo) Haugen on December 17, 1957. Kent grew up and attended school in Cando, graduating in 1976. He went on to earn an Architectural Drafting degree from NDSCS in Wahpeton, ND.

Kent married the love of his life, Marjean Dick, on May 16, 1987. This union was blessed with two beautiful children, Joshua and Kayla, whom became the center of his universe. Kent worked full time for the ND Army National Guard for 24 years. During the Gulf War he was the commander of the 133 ^rd water supply unit. After retiring from the National Guard as a Sergeant First Class, Kent worked 17 years with the United States Postal Service. He also served one term as the Towner County Auditor.

Kent was involved with the American Legion, Cub Scouts, the Cando Golf Course Board, the Cando Bowling Association, and served as the President of the Operation Roundup Board. He loved spending time with his family, friends, and his pets. Kent was an avid sport's fan, which included coaching elementary and junior high basketball. Although he enjoyed camping, bowling, and attending his children's activities, golfing was his passion. Kent achieved his goal of getting a hole-in-one as well as being the Club Champion several times including the past two years while he was battling cancer. Another one of his golfing highlights included golfing at St. Andrew's Golf Course in Scotland.

Kent was a gentle, humble, soft-spoken man with a quiet spirit, always putting his family first. He loved to travel with his family, recently returning from Hawaii, which was a celebration of his life vacation. Traveling with his children was important to him, and he encouraged them to bring friends along on these special trips. Kent led a Christ centered life and was a great example to those around him. For a while, he even texted his children's friends a Bible verse every night, which they looked forward to reading nightly.

It has been a blessing that our community was very supportive through Kent's illness hosting a benefit for the family in January. A gracious thank you to those who reached out during his time of illness. A very special memory was made for the family during the recent father-daughter ball hosted by the Entre Nous Club. After being released by the hospital that morning, he found the strength to dance with his daughter and his granddaughter.

Kent is survived by his loving wife Marjean; son Joshua Carl E Haugen of Cando; daughter Kayla Grace M Haugen of Bismarck, ND; and granddaughter Lydia Grace Hartman-Haugen of Ortonville, MN. He is also survived by his siblings Keith (Martha) Haugen, McKinney, TX; Debra (Paul) Hurt, Huntsville, AL; Kevin (Diana) Haugen, Anaheim, CA; Kipley (Dalia) Haugen, Canyon Lake, TX; and Brenda (Mouin) Jawad, Dearborn, MI. Other surviving members include sisters and brothers-in-law Dianna and Gene Rosinski, Cando, ND; Terry and Twana Dick, Stanley, ND; Darcy Gregg, Ogden, UT; mother and father-in-law Marge and Eugene Dick, Cando, ND; and a number of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Kent is preceded in death by his parents, Don and Carol (Farbo) Haugen; grandparents Leif and Grace (Close) Farbo and Carl and Hilma (Setter) Haugen.
