Obituary

Larry Braaten, age 74, of Cando, ND, passed away Sunday, January 20, 2013, at his home in Cando, ND.

Larry was born February 4, 1938, in McVille, ND to Theodore and Cleona (Hensrud) Braaten. He attended country school in the rural Tolna, ND area. In 1954, he began work for Gilbert Loken in the rural Lakota area. Larry was united in marriage to Margaret (Halstead) on May 22, 1959. They made their home on the Loken's farm. They welcomed a daughter, Darla, to the family. They moved to Cando where Larry was employed with Maynard Veum. They welcomed a son Daniel. Daniel passed away just months later. They moved to the Earl Hofstaads farm in Rural Starkweather in 1966. In 1974 they returned to Cando where Larry worked for Miller Gravel. Miller Gravel was later sold to Strata, and Larry worked for them for many years. He took a position with the City of Cando in 1992 and held that until his retirement in 2006.

Larry was a very hard worker and enjoyed his family. He liked to fish and to go to the casino every now and then.

Larry is survived by his wife Margaret of Cando; daughter Darla Moore (Rick Wagner) of Cando, ND; two granddaughters: Darby (Jay) Welsh of Grand Forks, ND and Abby Moore (Jared Roach) of Grand Forks, ND; siblings: Dennis, Douglas, Tommy, Judy, Betty, Barbara, Linda, Beverly, Loretta, Sharon, and Vicki and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his son Danny, parents, grandparents, brother Donald and sister Sonya.

SERVICES: Saturday, January 26, 2013 at 1:30pm at the Dunnigan Dix Funeral Home of Cando, ND with food and fellowship to follow the service at the Cando Bar.
