Lavonne Matthews, 68, of Cando, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 15, 2020 at the Towner County Medical Center in Cando. Funeral services will be at 10:00 AM on Saturday, June 12, 2021 at the Cando Lutheran Church with Pastor Bonnie Weaver officiating. The burial will take place at the Norway Lutheran Cemetery, located in rural Devils Lake, following the service. A Celebration of Life will follow the burial at 801 6 ^th Ave in Cando.

Lavonne Marie Matthews was born on September 19, 1952 in Rolla, ND, the daughter of Harley and Delores Volden.  Lavonne attended grade school in Maddock, ND and Cando and went to high school in Cando, the class of 1970. After high school, she moved to Grand Forks, ND and attended Joseph's School of Hair Design, and lived in Grand Forks for several years after. She then moved to rural Minnewaukan, ND where she made her home until she returned to Cando in 1996. She enjoyed her job at Towner County Medical Center, where she worked for 22 years. In 2004, Lavonne married Ralph Matthews in Cando. They liked spending weekends at their cabin on Devils Lake in the summer and spending the winter months in Arizona.

Lavonne is survived by her husband, Ralph Matthews, Cando; children, Rochelle Charette, Cando, Travis Tofsrud, Minot, ND, Nicole (Jeff) Jasper, Cando; step-children, Brad (Terri) Matthews, Battle Mountain, NV and Caron Beckett, Susanville, CA; siblings, Warren Volden, Cheryl (Bill) Widman, Grand Forks, Connie (Chris) Smith, Cranberry Portage, MB, Cathy (Monty) Miller, Sandi Volden, and Jerry Volden, Cando; two grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and numerous nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Harley and Delores; son, Troy Tofsrud; sister, Marilyn Matthews; and step-daughter, Brenda Roadifer.
