Loretta M. Currie, 84, Cando, ND entered into eternal peace on Saturday, January 20, 2018 surrounded by her family. She was in respite care at Eventide Lutheran Senior Living Community in Moorhead, MN. A Celebration of Life Ceremony will be held on Saturday, January 27, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at the Dunnigan-Dix Funeral Home Chapel in Cando, ND with Rev. Bonnie Weaver officiating. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Saturday. Music will be provided by Catherine Anfinson. Burial will be held at the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Cando in the spring.
Loretta was born on May 17, 1933 at home in Strathcona, MN to Theodore and Adelia (Erickson) Underdahl. She was welcomed by a brother, Lloyd, and sisters, Lorraine and Luella. Her family moved to Cando, ND where her brother, Duane, was born in 1935.
She attended Cando Public High School until March 25, 1951 when she married Roderick (Rody) M. Currie. Loretta gave life to eight children and was a loving mother. Loretta and Rody were longtime residents of Cando where they farmed the Currie Homestead. In 1980 they moved into Cando to care for Rody's mother, Isabelle and Jon (Jackson) Currie. They lived in Cando until April of 2007, when they moved to Mayville to be cared for by their daughter, Debra and her family, due to health concerns. On October 7, 2008 Rody passed away at home in Mayville.
Loretta spent one year with her son, Scott and his family in Jemez Springs, NM. Scott, Kari and their family enjoyed getting to share in Loretta's life. In September of 2009 she moved to Deadwood, SD to live with her daughter, Correen.
In May of 2017 she relocated to Fargo, ND for a summer adventure to spend time with her daughters, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Due to a seizure and advancing Alzheimer's Disease, she resided at Bethany Retirement Living on University for six months. At Thanksgiving, Hospice of the Red River Valley & Home Instead Service Care joined the family to provide skilled care at home in Fargo.
Loretta is survived by one sister, Luella Dix of Williston ND; children, Scott (Kari) Currie of Jemez Springs, NM, Correen Dammen of Deadwood, SD, Linda (Tom) Harmon of Toquerville, UT, Debra Miller of Fargo, ND, Lorie Currie of Cando, ND; 19 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great-grandchild; and many loving nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Roderick; three sons, Allen Roderick, David John and Douglas Mcpherson; her parents, Theodore and Adelia Underdahl; brothers, Alvin, Lloyd, and Duane; and one sister, Lorraine Trenda; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
