Lydia Katherine Eggl passed away Tuesday, October 25th, 2016 at Towner County Medical Center. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30AM Wednesday, November 2, 2016 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Fr. Daniel Musgrave celebrating the mass. Visitation will take place from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM Tuesday, November 1, 2016 at the Dunnigan Dix Funeral Home in Cando, ND. Burial will be held at the Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery in Cando, ND. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church. Music will be provided by Gladys Fluge and the Sacred Heart Catholic Choir.

Lydia Katherine was born February 4, 1920. She was the daughter of Ludwig and Christina (Schultz) Wagner. Lydia grew up on her parent's farm in the Starkweather/Cando area. She married Arnold Eggl October 14, 1940 at Cando. Lydia was a hard working farmer's wife working right alongside Arnold in the fields. It was stated on several occasions that the last new tractor purchased was hers because she was the only one that got to drive it. Her real claim to fame was her truck driving abilities as a grain hauler. This can be attested to by some custom combiners who needed some help one summer day. Lydia loved farm life and farm animals. She firmly believed that it was the milk cows that bought the groceries. In those days Saturdays were spent delivering cream and eggs to many Cando residents.

Lydia may have liked her cows, but her real passion was horses. In her growing up years she had fond memories of riding and working with horses. She passed her love of horses along to her daughter Sharon and her granddaughter Pamela. In her retirement Lydia liked to attend auction sales. She enjoyed the competition and thrill of winning the bid.

Lydia is survived by her son, Gary (Donna) Eggl of Bismarck; her daughter Sharon (Jim) Armey of Cando; grandchildren: Pamela (Randy) Upgren of Bismarck; Mike (Angie) Eggl of Bismarck; Ryan (Wendy) Eggl of Erskine, MN; great-grandchildren; Joshua and Jordan Upgren, Elizabeth and Sam Eggl, Jacob and Lucas Eggl and numerous nieces and nephews.

Lydia was preceded in death by her husband, Arnold, her sisters, Carmen Hartl and Elsie Wagner, her brothers, George and Louie Wagner.
