Matthew "Matt" Heisler, 92, Cando, ND, passed away on Thursday, April 23, 2015, at the Trinity Hospital in Minot, ND. A Vigil Service will take place Saturday, April 25, 2015 at the Dunnigan-Dix Funeral Home in Cando, ND at 3:00 PM with Fr. Joseph D'Aco officiating. Visitation will begin one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will be at the Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery in Cando, ND. Casket bearers will be Kyle Medearis, John Holmen, Dustin Putney, Rob Rader, Troy Pederson and Lloyd Winnegge. Honorary pallbearers will be Matt's grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Matthew "Matt" Heisler was born on June 4, 1922 to Pius and Dorothy (Ripplinger) Heisler on a farm near Barton, North Dakota. The family moved to Starkweather, ND when he was 13 years old. On June 30, 1947, Matt married Mavis Cissner at the Catholic Church in Starkweather, ND. Matt farmed, and in 1953 they moved to Cando, ND at which time he worked for the Ford Garage. After retirement he had his own shop in his garage where he fixed bicycles, engines, lawnmowers and did woodworking. Matt entered the Towner County Living Center in 2011. He was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Cando, ND.
Matthew "Matt" is survived by his wife of 67 years, Mavis; three daughters: Kathleen (Kenneth) Heard of Montgomery, AL; Beverley Cose of Karlsruhe, ND and Connie (Michael) Medearis of Pequot Lakes, MN; five grandchildren: Steven Heard of Athens, AL; Dawn Putney (James LaFountain) of Sheyenne, ND; Lacey (John) Holmen of Voltaire, ND; Kyle (Emily) Medearis of Baker, MT and Kelsi (Daniel) MacLaughlin of Pequot Lakes, MN; 10 great-grandchildren; one brother, Steven (Judy) Heisler of Cando, ND; sisters, Rose Winnegge of Cando, ND; Clara Rainsberry of Banning, CA; Anna Rader of Devils Lake, ND; Delphine (Bert) Rader of Denver, CO; Elizabeth Hartl of Cando, ND and Lena Keck of Devils Lake, ND; many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Pius and Dorothy Heisler; sisters Emelia and Francis and an infant sister.
