Obituary

Maxine Hanson, 93, of Cando, ND passed away Monday, December 5, 2016 at Towner County Medical Center in Cando, ND. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m., Sunday, December 11, 2016 at Cando Lutheran Church with Pastor Bonnie Weaver officiating. Visitation will be on Saturday, December 10, 2016 from 5 to 7 p.m. with a 7 p.m. prayer service at the Dunnigan-Dix Funeral Home in Cando. Burial will be in the spring at the Perth Cemetery in Perth, ND. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service at the church on Sunday. Casket bearers will be LaVern Knudson, Keith Knudson, Michael Knudson, Jeffrey Malo, Chad Malo, William Hanson, Benjamin Vandenberghe and Travis Sand. Honorary bearers will be her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Music will be provided by Jerie Gable and Roberta Mundahl.

Maxine Johnson was born November 27, 1923 in Hansboro, ND to Carl and Hazel (Lawrence) Johnson. She was raised and went to school in Perth, ND. She was the first born to a family of eleven children. She was united in marriage to Ernest Kjellerson in 1940. The couple had two daughters: Barbara Lucille Kjellerson and Roberta Ann Kjellerson. Ernest was killed in action on September 27, 1944 in World War II. Maxine got remarried to William Hanson in 1946 in Weelock, ND. The couple had three children: James Lynn Hanson, Linda Lou Hanson and Denice Louise Hanson.

Maxine was the Perth Postmaster from 1972 until she retired in 2003 at the age of 80. She moved to Cando in 2005. She loved her family with her whole heart. She was always baking so you could bet if you stopped by she would have something ready. If you hinted to her your favorite cake, pie, or bar you can bet she would make it for you the next day. She was the heart of her family and was there for everyone from her grown kids to her 5th generation great-great-grandkids.

Maxine was a member of the Homemakers Association, church quilting, Towner County Historical Society, Sons of Norway, American Legion and the Towner County Living center Auxiliary.

Maxine is survived by her son, Jim (Elinor) Hanson of Thief River Falls, MN; three daughters, Roberta Michels of Turtle Lake, ND; Linda (Allen) Malo of Rolette, ND; Denice (Mylon) Ness of Cando, ND; thirteen grandchildren, forty-four great-grandchildren, nineteen great-great-grandchildren along with sisters Hazel, Lucille, Emma and a brother Merle.

Maxine was preceded in death by her parents Carl and Hazel Johnson, husband Ernest Kjellerson, daughter Barbara Knudson, husband William Hanson, four sisters Shirley, Joan, Joanne and Yvonne and two brothers Carl Jr. and Ed.
