Neva Ellen Ashenfelter's Obituary
Neva Ellen Ashenfelter, 83, of Cando, ND passed away Wednesday, September 9, 2015 at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, ND. Graveside Services will be held on Wednesday, September 16, 2015 at 11:00 am at the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Cando, ND with Pastor Rick Craig officiating. Casket Bearers will be Walter Ashenfelter, Tim Learned, Bob Weltin, Noah Weltin, Drew Weltin, Marc Vetter and Steve Vetter. Music will be provided by Wayne Freund.
Neva Ellen Ashenfelter was born December 1, 1931 in Cando, North Dakota, the daughter of Walter and Flossie Ashenfelter. She graduated from Cando High School. She worked at JC Penney and the ASCS office in Cando. She then worked at the Towner County State Bank until her retirement. Neva enjoyed working with the public and all the people she met over the years. Neva was an active member on a bowling league for several years. Neva was a caregiver. She took care of her brother Virgil who had Muscular Dystrophy and her sister Vada. She loved to sit in her car by Standard watching traffic and people. Neva was a huge animal lover and could be seen around town driving with her own or family's dogs and cats. She also followed her nieces and nephews in local school events and was an avid Chicago Cubs fan. Her friends and family loved to gather at her home on Saturday evenings to socialize and enjoy baked goodies.
Neva is survived by her sister Verna Vetter, Cando, ND; niece and nephews Walter Ashenfelter (Tess Swenson) of Rolla, ND, Liesha (Bob) Weltin of Cando, ND, Tim (Colleen) Learned of Cando, ND, Marc Vetter (Brenda Campbell) of Cando, ND, Steve Vetter (Pam Halvorson) of Mekinock, ND; great-nephews Brendan Weltin of Minot, ND, Drew Weltin of Fargo, ND, Noah Weltin of Cando, ND, Brett Dilley of Cando, ND, and great-nieces, Codi Vetter of Cando, ND, Shauna Olsen of Cando, ND, and Kelsi Vetter of Crosby, MN.
She was preceded in death by her parents, an infant brother Albert, brothers Virgil and Walter and sister Vada and a great-nephew Jordan.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Uffda Fund for Animals, PO Box 426, Cando, ND 58324.
